I need help.

Long story short, I broke the steering adjustment lever on my car and now the steering wheel is in a "floaty" position. I have a replacement lever ordered and on it's way, I've also purchased a manual from emanual for my car.

Any help here greatly appreciated.

I talked with a dealership near me, and they're talking $1,670 to fix it. Saying that they would replace the steering column entirely. As in, and I'm assuming this, the steering column adjustment would then be elictrical vs mechicnal.

Please Help.

I wonder what model they are adapting the electrical setup from. I have not heard of an electrical adjustment for steering column.

Good luck.

Dealership is probably quoting you to replace the whole assembly (#1 in this diagram). It would work the same as it did before you broke it.

Can you go to a junkyard and pull one from there? That price seems outrageous.

I got this fixed now, geez, what a pain in the ass. Just glad it's over with.

Part was like 13$ and it had to come from Germany, took some time to get.

The labor cost was 615$

If anyone else happens to find themself in the same situation, here's where I ordered my part from.

Not really sure, the guy that fixed it, said it was a pain in the ass, I did get an emanual for the car. And it does point to taking this off, to get to that, then take that off to get to this. And so on.

So I live in NC and took it to North Raleigh Performance. They know their BMW's.

Quick question, my key that I am currently using does not work like it did, the car unlocking automatically, keyless start, etc. Is this an easy fix? The lock/unlock buttons on the key still work, and have to insert the key to drive the car.

Hey that's cool, finally solved.

That's a comfort access issue. I have no idea on what goes wrong with those.

Maybe it needs a new battery? Sometimes things, like a TV remote, start acting funny when it needs a new battery. Like some functions won't work, others will. Don't know if it's the same for your CA key fob. Uses a CR2032 battery, BTW.

I replaced the battery in the key and it's not working, and the dash brings up some kind of key error. Still starts the car if inserted.

You may need to recode confort access back to your key at the dealership if it was working before.

Any idea on how much that would be? If anything, I'll probably go back to NRP, versus a dealership.
