Learned something interesting today...

My right rear door has become excessively noisy. I stopped by dealer this afternoon and caught one of the techs and had him took a look. The metal between the door brake and the wiring harness is extremely thin. In fact it is so thin that it flexes when you push in-between the two with one finger. BMWs solution to reduce the popping noise when the door is opened and closed was to apply some black adhesive coating inside the door between the door brake and the wiring harness. I foresee a problem down the road. The E30s and E34s had problems with the metal in the doors fatiguing and the door brake coming through.

I just took a look at my rear doors' construction, and it all looks and feels very taught, tight, clean and well made. nothing loose to see and feel.

I hope you get this problem sorted.

Here you go. Where my finger is pointing. This specific area is fairly weak (flexes under pressure). If you remove the gasket behind my finger where the door brake is and look into the door you will see where the substance I spoke about was applied. Interestingly enough, I could not get the metal to flex as I was taking the pic. It was warm yesterday I suspect that the heat may have played a part.

BTW, it appears this maybe a common problem on the E90 as the tech knew exactly what to look at when I described the problem to him.

It happened to the drivers door on my E34. The door brake also broke on my 330Ci during the warranty.
