That will be the first event where we'll be able to take our very first "Team" photo with both sister cars in full livery and all the crew in uniform. I'll be like a proud papa.

What made you want to go from being a racer to an owner and crew chief, Scott? That seems like a huge leap. (just curious)

Actually, it was easy - I just skipped over the first step

I never have been a racer myself. I've done some HPDE stuff and have fun karting at K1 Speed (Boris Said's karting facilities), and maybe I could have been an okay driver. But if I wanted the team to have any success within my lifetime, I knew it wouldn't be with me behind the wheel.

We've been so busy, I haven't been posting updates and taking pictures of everything we've been doing. We made some custom home-made fixed camber plates to give us -3.5 deg. up front, so that should help a lot. We have a UUC front sway bar to install and we go to Dinan on the 19th to get software loaded.

Quick Infineon Update

We had a great weekend at Infineon with the SCCA Vintage guys.

The Nitto - Total Fluids 135i continues to get better and better.

We installed the UUC front sway bar after the qual and before the race and it made a HUGE difference - all good.

That, and the additional negative camber and the Dinan software really helped the car.

Here's a thumbnail link to a pic of Rolando at Infineon this weekend...

I was in the M3 this weekend and finished 3rd both races!

Special thanks for Craig and David Beekman who were a huge help as always.

Looking forward to getting behind the wheel at Watkins Glen!

Hi All -

I survived the road trip (more on that in this thread):
http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16442

Going from HB to Corning, NY in 48 hours was crazy, but it was worth it as the 135i definitely surprised some people at Watkins Glen. BMW CCA write up is here:

http://stage.bmwcca.org/forum/showthread.php?t=3451

It was great meeting Larry at the Glen and Mike on the way back in Santa Fe. Once I get some pics downloaded at home, I'll be posting them.

Hey all,
I'm a photographer/writer who drove with Scott from New Mexico to Arizona on his return from the Glen. Thought you'd appreciate some pics from PIR. I even managed to get pulled over for speeding in the 135 and got away with a warning! Thanks officer. Anyway, here are some pics. The action photo is of driver Rolando Saldana during practice. Expect a story on a BMW magazine sometime down the line.

Hehe - thanks for posting those pics, Zach. That was a last fun leg of the trip and now I can say I've been through Winslow, Az.

You mentioned you had the heat on to cool the engine, most cars use the exhaust gas so this probably has no effect on engine temp.

Although I believe john candy in cannonball run 3 (aka speed zone) did this in his bimmer, so you never know...

Au contrare. Every liquid cooled car I know of uses radiator coolant passed through a smaller heat exchanger (radiator) to heat the passenger compartment. This does remove heat from the engine.

Hi All -

I'm finally able to get some photos out of my camera and start documenting the 2.5 week fiasco that was 3 consecutive race weekends coast-to-coast-to-coast. (Infineon, Watkins Glen and PIR).

First part of the journey for the 135i was leaving Huntington Beach on Thursday night towards Morgan Hill, Ca. to visit the guys at Dinan Engineering. Dave Beekman drove the 135i, while Craig and I towed the M3. We got there a little after 9 AM on Friday and they were there waiting for us.

In the bay at Dinan ready for software upgrade

Tech at Dinan removing our ECU

ECU then goes to the Software department for the Stage 2 upgrade

While there, we got a tour of the facility and look what we found: Steve Dinan's club race car. This is one of the fastest cars ever to race in BMW Club Racing. Amazing - the turbo is actually in the passenger compartment.

Dave Beekman with Steve's race car

And we met long time Dinan Tech, Chayne

After the software load, Dave took it for a test drive - it was all good (lots of power, no errors), so then it was off to the track at Infineon before the Friday afternoon bay area traffic.

As usual, higher res versions in the photo gallery:

Sear's Point:

After getting the Dinan Stage 2 software load, we went to the track and prepared for the race weekend

Team Photo

On track action for both the 135i and the M3
