6-speed + Navi
A question to all of those that have a 6-speed + Navi:
during shifting, do you ever find yourself accidently tapping the top of the i-drive button? do you put the arm-rest up or down? For me, if i can...i always flip up the arm-rest. I want to be parallel with the shift knob. If I order navi, i'm afraid that i might tap the i-drive button often. Thank you in advance! Best Regards -Greg |

Nope, I cant see how you would come in contact with the i-drive button. I also have no problem shifting with the armrest down.

I have never accidentally hit the Idrive button as it takes a bit of force to activate any functions, and my armrest is always down. When cruising my arm is always to the right of the console with my hand to the right of the shift knob.. very comfortable.

All I can say is that I'm REALLY glad I got it. I almost didn't.

Between Navi and using Conciege for destinations, Seeing whats on the audio system with a glance, and bluetooth seeing your phone calls come in (i am on the road alot with work and seeing incoming caller names with a quick scan to the right) is an awesome feature.
Plus voice recog is great if you get used to using it. I got 1500 off early 08 pricing before the 08 price increase, so it was a no brainer, now with the base increases it is a bit of cash, but it is very worth it given the new features of 09 Navi/HD based audio additions

I've NEVER accidentally engaged the iDrive controller knob when shifting... armrest mostly down and sometimes up.
It's all good! The '09, however, will have an array of additional exposed buttons surrounding the controller knob... so naturally the risk for accidentally depressing one will increase, of course... but I would not expect it to become any kind of problem.

Never touched iDrive accidentally, I drive with the armrest down. The thing that has surprised me is that I've never accidentally hit the extra cupholder when I have it in either.

also keep in mind idrive goes where the cup holder was, so if they designed this part of the interior correctly, the arm will not hit a drink or the idrive controller (they would sit in the same place when both cup holders are being used)
Plus the idrive was not an after thought, i have sat in this car many times, and found that my arm placement did not cross paths with the idrive. |

My girlfriend's hand is usually in the way. The armrest is fine, however, it would be extra nice if it was lower. I sometimes find myself resting too heavily on the armrest. I never hit the iDrive button though.
