Adaptive Light Control

Say I have the light switch in position 3 (Automatic headlamp control,...) and select high beams. When a car approaches and has their headlamps my high beams should automatically switch to low beams and back to high beams after the on-coming car passes. Correct?

When this happens does the high beam indicator, on the dash, turn off and on when this happens or does the indicator remain on indicating high beams?

I think your confusing "highbeam assist" with auto headlights.

All 135i's have automatic headlights (you have to turn the headlight switch CC(left)).

Highbeam assist was an extra option. It will show up in your instrument panel.

I did not know that was a special feature. I checked my documents and did not see anything about "highbeam assist" so I do not have it. I have never even heard of it.

Since you don't have "highbeam assist" lets talk about the "auto" mode of the headlight switch...

Not only will your headlights turn on automatically when it gets dark or traveling thru say a tunnel... but it will also allow your xenon headlights to follow the steering wheel inputs. All US spec 135i's have AHL (adaptive head lights) so when in the auto mode the headlights will turn left and right as you turn the steering wheel. Also the inner lamps will light up for extra cornering illumination. When you turn the headlights on MANUALLY, your AHL are set static - straight ahead position. In the AUTO mode they will move left/right. This is why I always leave my headlights in the "auto mode".

I was familiar with many of the points you presented and I thank you for the ones I did not know. My only problem is that I very seldom drive at night or when I do it is on the highway to I do not get to experience the functions very much. When I do turn them on I always use the position 3.

I noticed that I have a light on the back of the mirror. Is there a way I could activate the highbeam asset function?

And both inner lamps come on when reversing if auto mode on.

How can you tell if you have this? I'm in the UK, so I'm not sure if mine has it or not. I have a 2009 135i (N54) with Xenons and auto headlights. I always wondered if mine "moved" at all.

For the US market all 135i's (and optional for 128i's) had AHL(adaptive head lights ie: curve following) Xenon headlights.

For the rest of the world(RoW) bmw also offered non-AHL Xenon unit.

Ah, mine must be the non-AHL versions then. They don't have the "frosted" look on the inner lights.
