Anyone bought a BMW interstate recently?

I've got a mate who is trying to source a new X5 40d from interstate and none of the BMW dealers want to do business interstate. It's been 2.5 years since I bought my M3 ex-QLD where they were really keen to do business. Not now it appears.

Either business is REALLY good or they've been colluding to reduce interstate competition.

I think you'll find the issue is anywhere to Perth.

Well....... I spose buying the 1M in Vic and the P car in QLD are both interstate from Canberra then yep, no issues.

the Porsche guy actually flew down here, got the car cleaned and drove it to my house, spent a couple hours here going over stuff then jumped in a taxi to the airport then flew back to QLD. Gotta be happy with that service, oh and they forgot to charge me freight to bring it down too hahahahaha

What do you mean they didn't want to do business? Do you mean they aren't willing to negotiate the price for you? Or to the point where it's rejection? Also is the car going be factory ordered?

I've called some eastern states dealership in search for a possible M3 and they were more than happy to sell me one, but they aren't shaving much of the price. I also called one private seller the other day whom didn't want to sell interstates at all and it's a shame cause he only wanted $99k before negoiations and it had reasonably low km's.

Business must be going really good then. I can't think of a car salesman who wouldn't want to sell you a car. I'm guessing they're not taking your friend serious for some reason. They probably think he only wants a low price from them to then use to talk down a local dealer in Perth so they're not giving him the time.

Last I heard is only 1500 my workmates almost bought a m5 from Melbourne and that was what he was quoted.

It varies a lot. We brought a (second hand) car to Brisbane from Perth, and it cost around $1600, but that was in a covered container. Were quoted about $900 on an open trailer, but going that distance along that road on an open trailer would have meant possibly lots of stone chips and bug splats. We used Seva...they were very good.

I would guess if a dealer was organising it, they probably get a better price from a transport company if they use them regularly.

$1.6k sounds good, hardly a deal breaker especially if saving lots more $$$ off the RRP of the price.

Sorry to skip topic a bit, but ive been looking online at the TMR website (QLD) and vicroads about buying a second hander privately in QLD and driving it down. Any experience of anyone bringing interstate cars to VIC? Sounds like as long as the seller is happy for me to drive it down on the QLD plates with rego papers signed over should be fairly sweet?

Yeah I've done it a few times from Sydney. Really easy, buy the car with rego and drive it down. when you go to Vic roads to register the car, pay all the taxes stamp duty etc (it's all on their website) get a receipt for the interstate plates youre handing in and you'll then be entitled to claim the remaining rego on the car back from the interstate road authorities (minus some admin fee).
Pretty easy really, I've never had any issues.
Enjoy the drive!

If you're looking at a new vehicle, you could consider a broker such as Private Fleet (from whom I bought mine). I note that Private Fleet have stopped quoting interstate dealers, and now only deal with distributors in your home state. This means you get to pick up the car from the dealer yourself, instead of having it unloaded in your driveway.

I doubt if you'll do a better deal yourself, and you are spared the dreary hassle of dealing with salespeople.

I purchased my car in Adelaide and drove it back to sydney. drove it around for 2 months on the SA plates.
had to get e blueslip and then CTP insurance and then go and hand the plates in to RTA. got a rebate for the rego that was left on the SA plates.

I think he's finding the service at the MB dealers is a bit better. Stuttgart trumps Munich by the looks of it.
