REAR TIRES.
Hi everyone, i drive a 128i and i have a few questions.
For tracking, does rear tires have to be wider than the front? whats the benefit of having your rear tires wider? or can front and rear be the same if im just putting on 17 inch tires. Has anyone tried going with slick tires on track? THANKS!! |

Front and rear can be the same. That makes carrying one spare and tire rotation possible.
The advantage of wider rear is fitting the most possible wheel and tire. Lots of people have tried slicks. With stock suspension, some people think it causes too much body roll, other people like it anyway. |

There's a lot to be said of having too much tire and ruining the handling balance of a car. The size of the wheel at 17" has less to do with performance of the than tire width. Whether you want a square setup or a staggered width setup will all depend on your driving style and personal preference

If you have less contact patch in the rear, the car will tend to over steer more easily, and likewise less contact patch in the front will cause the car to under steer.
