It looks like retractible hard top convertibles are making a comeback. Mitsubishi then M-B, then Lexus, then Volvo... I may have missed a few who copied Ford who introduced the first production HT convertible in 1957.

hard top convertibles are the way all converibles should be from now on i think.

Soft tops are weak and contribute to a weaker frame rigidity. Besides they just look like plain crap.

In due time.

I've heard that the 4 series is being developed as a model range in it's own right, curious to see what it will look like? Hopefully a concept for next years Autoshow circut?

I've heard they first wanted to call the E92/E93 the 4 series, but because of the 3-coupe good image they called it off..

Hard tops are heavier, and worst of all, the extra weight is in the roof (in other words, the worst place for weight...). Think of the M3 CSL or the M6 .

On the other hand, I find soft tops 'classier'... But that's a question of tastes .

softtop looks so damn cheap when top is up.

so I am guessing 3 series coupe and 4 series coupe line-up is coming.
oh jesus, now I have more things to worry about.

there are drawbacks to both the hardtop and softtop options

the hardtop is not as stong as a fixed top, and with all the hinges required to let it fold it's not going to make the body more rigid at all.

The hardtop would eat alot of trunk space too

the softtop isn't perfect either, but it's the tried and tested option

no hardtop convertible has had any performance at all so far
SLK, volvo, lexus, stupid chevy truck thing
