Leaving today for Florida!
I know this is a pointless thread but just wanted to tell everyone I'm leaving today for a weeks vacation to Florida. I live in Hanover, PA and I'm driving the 135i down which is around 1000 miles one way. It should be a fun road trip and should be fun down there. I've never been to Florida and I'll be staying with a friend in Clearwater. Also just wondering if anybody knows some cool stuff to do/see down there. Anything car related or just whatever

I've done the drive to Florida myself. It's soooooo boring. Truck stops and Waffle Houses all the way and very few cities after DC/Baltimore IIRC. Drive safe and have fun!

To OP: Take pics during the drive! Also dont forget about trapster.com Also, if you have some extra time to kill, swing by Savannah. It is about 20miles off the highway, but the historic areas are REALLY cool. |

If you're into art at all, or just generally trippy stuff, the Salvador Dalí Museum is a must see. It's right there in St. Pete, and has the worlds largest collection of his art.
As far as car related stuff, there's the Don Garlits drag racing museum on the way down (you'll drive right by it if you cut across on I10 and come down I75), and then there's a drag strip at Bradenton if you want to catch a "test and tune" night. Cars can put down good numbers in FL because you're at sea level, but it can also be pretty hot this time of year, which works against you. I'm assuming you'll be coming down I81, then hitting I77 in VA, so word to the wise...when you hit the VA line, SLOW DOWN. I grew up in SW VA and lived in FL for 7 years, so I've done this trip a lot. There's a VA State Police HQ in Wythville, and they are absolutely brutal on speeders through there. You're only in the state for about 45 minutes, so it's not worth the risk to speed. There's another serious speed trap just as you hit the SC border. The limit drops down to 60MPH, and they patrol it like crazy. |

This is very true, and 95 from Fredericksburg south is equally brutal. Also, make sure to stop at South of the Border too! Just don't eat the hot dogs. |

You do realize that Clearwater to Miami is going to be over 6 hours each way right? FL is a LONG state. If you do go, once you're tired of the crazy traffic in Miami, head up to Ft Lauderdale. I can understand wanting to see Miami, but honestly you couldn't pay me to go there on vacation. |

Got about 200 miles into the drive and ran into a hail storm. The pieces of hail hitting my car were about the size of a dime. I pulled over to the side of the road and got under a tree as quickly as I could. But as you can see in the pics below I didn't get out of it quick enough. There are about 15 total dents between the hood, roof and rear deck lid
Hopefully my insurance covers it!

Well the verdict on the hail is that I will have to pay my deductible but thats no big deal of course. And on my last day there which was Thursday I was driving from Honeymoon Island State Park over to the International Plaza Mall in Tampa I got rear ended at a stop light by a 4 foot tall woman driving a Dodge Dakota. I was having a great weekend up until this happened
Here are a few pics...

Yea I really do and it sucks! My mom always says if it's going to happen to somebody it's probably going to happen to me. ugh I hate talking to insurance companies 24/7! She clearly told the officer it was her fault and she got cited so just fix my car and don't bother me anymore! lol

man, cant believe the bad luck you had on this trip, from now on, on long road trips it might be better to get a rental car
