Panel gaps...Front Bumper Spec.

I know the 1's are somewhat plagued w front bumper/quarter panel gap-disease.

Not a huge deal, but I love how the car had tight panels gaps and lines when I first picked it up.

Ive have the bumper replaced 2x now due to accidents, and not expecting perfection, but the gaps just seem to get wider and wider....

any remedy for this? aside from more cowbell......

Check out the fender tab. It has probably gotten bent over time.

Well, unclip the bumper, get in there with a screwdriver or pliers, and bend that bastard back into position!

Better than buying a new fender and paying to repaint. For now anyway.

they wear down over time 1, and 2, my 19" wheels and 1/2" lowered ride height do not help this problem either. perhaps should have included that in the original post.

ANY FIXES????

you're rubbing at the front on the tab? ever considered camber plates at the front? I have the B12 kit (lowers about 10-15mm more than M-sport) along with Dinan fixed camber plates up front. Tires are 225 upsized on stock 18" wheels, with a 12mm spacer. I have TONS of room up there, don't even come close to the fender tab.

i did consider it but my SA advised against it he said it makes the car track left/right hard on any unleveled surface...

Not true - I'm running close to -2.0 of camber, with Dinan fixed camber plates up front. I don't feel it's any worse in terms of tramlining or tracking the road. That has more to do with your alignment, specifically your TOE settings.

so i have 19" wheels...not sure if camber will make it worse or better. you have 18"...

The diameter of the rim strictly doesn't matter - as long as you picked a tire profile that keeps the overall diameter the same as stock. I'm running 225/40/18 on the stock 18x7.5 up front, this is taller than the stock 215/40/18. You're running 225/35/19 up front, you overall diameter is higher than stock then that's taking more room away as well and is likely contributing to your rub. This size has a 10mm+ diameter increase which is significant. That's 5mm+ of wheel arch gap loss which means less clearance.

Lastly - width and offset is just as if not more important than diameter. Either way a camber plate would move the top of the tire "inwards" towards the strut, which means more clearance regardless.

You're welcome. Very handy site to play around with tire sizes and wheel offsets can be found here:

www.willtheyfit.com

Enter the stock values and what you are running/looking to run and it gives you a nice breakdown on the differences.

Good luck and hope you're able to work out the issues.
