Maintenance Program Upgrade

Just got an email from BMW...looks like they are extending the free maintenance for two more years on '06 and later. The mileage stays the same (50k), but for those that don't drive as much or have this as a 2nd car looks like you get an extra two years at no charge.

Now if they would extend the warranty by two years I would keep the car longer. I never reach the miles of the warranty before the time runs out.

I think what they are saying is that you can get an extended service upgrade if you pay for it.

¹ This phase begins after the initial four year or 50,000 mile plan expires and it offers the same benefits and ownership value. The BMW Maintenance Program covers all factory-recommended maintenance on all model year 2006 vehicles and newer vehicles, as determined by the Service Level Indicator, for four years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. Exclusions from coverage: gasoline, gasoline additives, windshield washer additives, tires, wheels, wheel alignment, tire balancing and rotation. All work must be performed by an authorized BMW center. See the Service and Warranty Information booklet for more details and exclusions.

This must be what the email is referring to.

The BMW Maintenance Program Upgrade

When you invest in a BMW, you can drive confidently knowing your vehicle includes the BMW Maintenance Program, covering all factory-recommended maintenance and specific items needing replacement due to normal wear at no charge for the first 4 years/50,000 miles, whichever comes first.

But your confidence doesn’t need to end there. You may have the option to purchase an upgrade for the earlier of 2-year/50,000-miles, extending your total maintenance coverage up to a total of 6 years/100,000 miles, whichever comes first, for applicable models—its coverage and value are unmatched.

All covered maintenance program services are performed at an authorized BMW center, by a BMW-trained technician, using only Original BMW Parts. So your Ultimate Driving Machine® can stay that way.

I re-read it to make sure I didn't miss something, and I'm still not sure this isn't a FREE upgrade to a two-year extension. The wording in the email does not mention purchase or optional or anything like that. :iono:

The extended Warranty or Maintenance isn't cheap either. I asked my CA for the cost of it out of curiousity and I believe it's based on your car's MSRP. For my car at least, the numbers were as follows:

Warranty: +2yrs/+50,000 miles - $2,875
Maintenance: +2yrs/+50,000 miles - $1,895

So to get essentially a 6yr/100,000mile Warranty AND Maintenance coverage inclusive of the standard 4yr/50k mile, you gotta dish out $4,770+. Granted, if for whatever reason your turbos decide to go out on the fifth year or so, this would be worth the extra cost, but then...who really wants to plan for that?

is that warranty even a "bmw" warranty? I was quoted aftermarket prices, better prices going direct on those
