$850 xenons..

So Ive been proposed an offer to me.. not sure if i should take it. Someone is going to sell me his Angel eyes (the adaptive wont work for me) for $850 and he will do the installation. What do you think? Do it, or save the money... I really want angel eyes, but i feel sketch if they didnt come with the car. Hes not sure if they will work, so i dont have to pay if they dont. Can my electrical system handle the output of xenons? Any info. thanks

From what I know with the service tech, the vehicles with Xenons have a totally different wiring harness. But if they can somehow trick the system I guess that works. Good luck if you decide to go with xenons, I regret not spending the extra $800 now that I see them around.

not sure about BMW

but for benz the swap is direct.. except you need to set the computer that you have HID. Or else you will have a bulb out error, but the lights work.

but its free to try so y not

I ordered my previous e46 without xenon's and regretted it. I ordered the xenon's later, and installed them, and had a wiring meltdown. My wiring couldn't handle the xenon's. I had to go to my dealer and get my computer reset and a module, I can't remember what. I remember my wires were so hot they were almost liquid. Thankfully, the dealership replaced this stuff under warranty, even though it was NOT a warranty item, since I tried to replace the lights. IT may be different for you, or on the e90, but I was told the wiring was different. Keep us posted.

I wouldn't really care for adaptive..but to get the Xenon's and angel eyes...that would be a good thing...esp for 850...ask him how he would be doing this....i'm pretty sure you'd have to change the wiring harness and all that good stuff....will all that be included?

I think you wouldn't have to worry about the xenons, wiring is rather simple, and just slap on some relays and you won't have melting wires. The adaptive part probably won't work. I think you need a lot more parts to make it "adaptive". This ebay seller distinguishes two different kits for people who has xenons already and want to switch to clear corner, and the cars without xenons.
Cars without adaptive HL
Cars already with adaptive
Read through the first auction, it is obvious the headlight assembly+bulb is not the only things you need to make it adaptive.

With that said, if your main goal is to have HID, just buy a set of Hella plug&play and install that on your original (about $400). If what you want is angel eyes, $800 is a little too much to spend on an used set of lights. You might as well pay a couple hundred more and buy an used set with clears from this guy on ebay Used clear light auction
This guy's not giving you a good deal IMO. Not worth the money. If he gives you that set for $600 then I would consider it. As far as installation, I'm sure you can talk some guys on this forum into helping you install it for free. Well, not free, he gets to spend an afternoon with you.

Him "not being sure" if they would work would make me a bit wary personally.

That said, if it will work $850 for xenons is a no brainer, particularly since you're alway posting wishing you had them.

I hate to say it Bella but you should just stick with what you've got or just swap the halogen bulbs for xenons. What will you do if this guy tries to install them and something goes wrong?

let this be a lesson to future buyers -- get the xenons. it's worth the $800.

Hi Bella,
good news! My e91 have had halogen headlights. I've bought a pair of xenon headlights a week ago. Today my meccanic have installed them without any problems. I have to go to Bmw dealer to reset a computer error. Total cost euro 700.
So I suggest you to do the upgrade ... is possible and simple!!!
Good luck

I agree. Unless it's a trained BMW mechanic with experience on an E90, I wouldn't risk it.

Its just an HID swap.
Does the power connector look the same?

HIDs require more electricity to start, but require only 35 watts to maintain while your halogens are 55 watts.

EASY WAY:

1. Get access to the back of the head lights
2. Unplug the power for the low beams (unplug battery if your the careful type)
3. Plug it into OEM direct swap part (Dont install just let it sit on the groud or whereever
4. See if it powers up or give you an error.

If it give you an error then your car probably requires some sort of computer reprogramming.

*forget about the auto level and the adaptive part

They have different harnesses just to give you the heads up!
I would personally never mess with the electronics in this car. In the past I would have said go for it, but now a days stuff is so sophisticated and if you ever have an issue at all they will blame it on the lights. Others have tried to change the bulbs in the fog lights and that kicks up errors and says to change the bulbs.... the system nows the draw and all that for the specific items. Best of luck!
Here is the info on the wiring:

Bella - I sometimes share your regrets, as I have halogens on both cars and have had xenons in the past. But I made my decision when ordering the cars and I'll stick by it (might be different next time round). I wouldn't risk swapping them out - I am sure it is more involved than just a part swap. And the thing about electronics is that you might be fine for quite awhile and then start having problems later.

If you do it, I wish you the best of luck. But I wouldn't risk it.

NOT worth the risk to have someone who clearly doesn't know what he's doing work on your car.
