Someone talk me out of one of these...

I went for a test drive in one on the weekend and I like it. Sure it's not quick, and is completely opposite of my 135, but I have always been in two frames of mind with cars. Either it has to make me smile performance wise, or it has to make me smile audio wise. I spent a lot of time and money in my younger years with in-car stereos, and think the Evoque would make a great car-theatre for me.

I love the look of them, I'd take one over any other small SUV on the market (although the CX7 comes close in the looks department). They are more fuel efficient than the 135i, and much more practical too.

Saw one the other day in the flesh and looks amazing. It's one of those cars everyone will love you for it.

Performance? Who cares.

We are considering one of these to replace her VW as a second car. Was originally looking at an X-series BMW as a daily after I sold the 135 and got the Z4.

Somehow I feel the Evoque may offer much better value for money than a similar BMW.

I think the Evoque is perfect fun car. Unfortunately the X3 is more practical for my needs as it will be used as a work car, otherwise it would be a tough call.

I wouldn't trade in your 135i for one though, you will miss your N54! This is something I'd want the missus to drive where I could occasionally drive it from time to time. Best of both worlds lol

I have the driveaway price list in front of me, all prices are the 'Pure' range which is the standard trim. And all prices are for the auto, the petrol Si4 only comes in auto. Diesels can be had in manual, I think about $1500 less.

TD4 $63k
SD4 $67k
Si4 $68k

The 'Prestige' trim adds $16k to the price, and the 'Dynamic' is $14k more than the standard kit. It adds things like xenons, more leather trim, bigger wheels, bigger screen etc.

Are these prices right? Seems like a lot of money for some upgrades.

Vin, sure are. There are quite a few differences... but it's really hard to understand what exactly your paying for. There is a very complex options list, and even the sales guy couldn't tell me in plain english what you are getting in the different packs.

Oh and those prices quoted are for metallic paint too.

What do you mean by the X3 is more practical Vin? To me they are pretty similar?

I prefer the 4 door one aswell. I really like the fact that you can buy one in manual.

Also might add, that in nearly 3 weeks, the Brisbane dealer had sold 52 already (so the salesmen said, but he did seem genuine). Don't think deliveries start till December.

I'm yet to see an Evoque in person so I need to reserve final judgement. I think the X3 has an advantage in terms of boot space and also being a true 5 seater. I'm not sure what the rear is like, I'm sure it will fit 4 people comfortably though. I also wish it had a slightly bigger engine for more power as I'm only interested in the diesel models to cut down on costs. I'm comparing this to an X3 30d with options putting it around 105-110k.

The biggest issue would be practicality, I need a real boot and a true 5 seater. I'd love a bigger engine but could live with a smaller one if I had to. Other than these 2 issues, the Evoque wins comfortably. Also I think in reality for me it's better to drive something more subtle to work.

The X3 may be more subtle, but it screams more $$$. The BMW badge in my opinion has more of a snob factor that the Evoque doesn't have.

There is a fair amount of rear leg room, not sure compared to the X3 though. Pretty sure it's a true 5 seater? In some pics there is a car with 2 sports style rear seats which is a $7k option (includs sports front seats too, but they don't hold you in very well)
