So much easier once they are old enough to climb in and sit in their seat themselves. But even leaning in and around to buckle up their harnesses is hard work in a coupe. My two can climb in and get into their seats by themselves, and in the X5 my 6 year old son can now buckle himself up and buckle up his 3 year old sister. So much easier than when they are newborns. That is a nightmare!

Took the drive to the local and only dealer in Canberra that sells these little trucks, waste of time. Not because of the car, the dealership.
Two cars sited outside in their yard, one was filthy dirty and the other was wedged between two other cars. If I want to check one properly I will got to Sydney for sure. I like to look at the car inside in good light where the car is prepped and not competing with skoda's for sales in the same row of cars, amateurs. The car seemed great just wasn't well represented or presented at the dealer. They also sell datsuns around the corner so I guess they think the same clients want RRs, der. |

I still think the X3 is one of the best in its class. It does everything really well.
One area where the Evoque is really lacking which I have recently discovered is the real life fuel economy. The SD4 diesel versions are only managing 12km/litre. The best anyone has achieved is around 17km/litre and that is coasting downhill. Those figures are unacceptable when compared to the technology in the BMW diesel engines. aus135i? What kind of economy do you get from you X3 20d? |

I watched this video and scratched my head. My X3 doesn't struggle like that.
I went out this morning and tried to drive up and over a steep rise covered in wet grass. No slip and no hesitation at all. I think this goes to show you can't trust the people who make videos. They try to make you believe what they want.

And most importantly, I just realised unless these videos are conducted by someone credible, we really have no idea what tyres these SUV's are using. I paused the video to see the X1 tyres and they don't look very impressive, from what I could see. |

Totally. I've been out shopping with a mate there, and then again today to look at the Evoques. Terrible service.
I also think the Evoque marketing is border-line false advertising - I haven't seen one for under $100k yet....not even close to the list prices...the low-spec diesel we checked out in Canberra was $118k! Could get a second hand X5 and some change for that.. Quote:

What I really want is an Evoque with a BMW 35d engine in it!! Lol nah, I would be very happy with the 20d engine from BMW in the Evoque. The real world economy figures of the Evoque are very disappointing and not even close to what they claim. I think the prices online aren't accurate. Also, there are 3 different engines and 3 different luxury specs. Like any car, you can easily get carried away with options but I think they start from around 70k. To get a nice build you need at least 80k imho. |

I did notice at least 3 people that worked there admiring my car and walk around it a few times. It's nice when someone with some knowledge or passion for cars admires your car. I think them seeing my car worked in my favour on this occasion, maybe not so much on getting a good price on the day though! I've had similar experiences at BMW and Mercedes with salesmen coming out and asking me more questions about my car then the car I'm looking at buying! I don't think it's necessarily the car but the fact that they assume it's got a few modifications done to it. Ironically, the worst experiences I've had have been at Ford and some non-premium dealerships |

Just a note - baby seat is in the X3, and there's no room for two adults at the back. Well, you can fit two in, but it is a bit of a squeeze. For those culture who requires taking parents in the car... it might not be the best option. Or that is an excuse for you not to take them with you on a trip . I would think the evoque would have the same problem.

You can definitely get in one for less than 70k even with auto and met paint... I can understand some people preferring the x3, but frankly, its ugly and on the cool wall it would be off the charts uncool ... |

The strange thing about the pricing for the Evoque is that it's significantly cheaper to spec up an entry level Pure spec than to go for a higher model. The dealer told me they don't know why the pricing structure is like this but most customers are building their cars this way. I can see this being a drawback for resale because a Pure will always be a Pure, regardless of how many options it has, as opposed to a Dynamic or Prestige model. I'm going for a well optioned Pure build as it comes in about 10k cheaper than the other models with almost all the same options.

Yeah...maybe it was a wildly specc'd one. Looking again $80k is more than reasonable. ...
..so come next year and 'practical car time'..do I go a second hand X5 or diesel 3 series wagon...or an evoque...hmmm Quote:
