Help- Heated Seat Fail

Hi,

My wife's 2009 128i (sport seats) driver side heated seat recently stopped working. All other electronics on the seat work fine. Passenger seat also works perfectly.

When you push the button, the three lights light up and immediately turn off. A click can be heard from under the seat. Intermittently I can get it to work by pressing the button over and over.

Based on what Internet research I've done, this isn't an uncommon problem however I've yet to read about a fix.

Any feedback or direction would be appreciated as BMW wants more than $1500+ to replace the whole lower section of the seat.

Sadly the car just came out of warranty and local dealers are refusing to consider a good will fix.

look at e46fanatics or e90post and see what they did in simmilar situations

Next realOEM.com should have separate part numbers for heating element or something else. Allowing you to save alot on only the affected part
Then its matter of taking the seat apart, to learn and repalce the issue

Sounds like a circuit break or something. If the lights turn on then shut off right away. Maybe there is a wire somewhere that isn't connected properly or theres some sort of short in the circuitry. Just thinking out loud. I have no experience with this kind of stuff.

I ran into this exact symptom prior to purchasing my wife's 2009 328i xdrive a couple of weeks ago. I even considered buying a second hand seat.

Just for the heck of it, I first raised the seat to highest position to see if I could see any damaged or disconnected wires under there. That was not the case, but still went ahead and pressed down and wiggled every single connector. The heated seat started working again and hasn't acted up since then.

Possibly. But it's the light tan/beige color which isn't as common.
