M3 Steering Wheel on 135i?

Hello, I have a friend who sold me his steering wheel from a 2008 M3 (paddle shift) when he upgraded to the BMW perf. steering wheel.

Will this wheel fit on my 135i (sport package, paddle shift) without extensive modification?

I love the stock steering wheel but since I got the car used a bit of the finish around the buttons is peeling off.

I hope his steering wheel would fit on my car as I do like the M tri-color stitching on it.

Thanks for any help you can offer!

I think so. Check with Tischer's or United's website... they sell them as upgrades for non M models. The only thing is your car will need to be an auto IF your steering wheel has the paddles.

I have an automatic transmission and the car is equipped with the sport package so it has an "M" sport steering wheel with the paddles.

I doubt any problem with the steering wheel. Just check with your local BMW maintenance center and i would suggest let them do the work for you.

If your steering wheel is pealing or cracking or anything that's under warranty. Same thing happened to mine....I took it in, looks like new.

Just do it yourself. It's a steering wheel, it's not hard. I know there are write-ups in the M3 forum for it.

don't you need special tools to remove the steering wheel?

I have added things to my previous cars but I wanted to keep this one pretty much factory and/or only have the dealer do any installations that I might add.
I paid all this extra money for the 6 year 100,000mi warranty and would hate to come out of pocket for more maintenance or things that they say aren't covered etc.

If my steering wheel trim is peeling I understand that I could get it replaced under warranty. Does anyone know if they have to take the whole steering wheel off to replace the trim? If so, maybe I can get them to swap the wheels then...

Noop. That pannel around the buttons comes off w/o removing the steering wheel. I would think any good dealer would only charge you an hour or two labor to install your M3 wheel.

You never told us IF your car has an Auto/DCT trans or if it is a 6MT. Do you want those paddles to work?

I would say simular but not the same. Plus the leather used on the M3 steering wheel looks (and feels) much nicer than the 135i M-wheel.

This is one mod that I really want to do myself! Has anyone installed their M3 steering wheel themselves?

I've been searching a lot of steering wheels threads and couldn't find an answer...

Of the wheels pictured above, is the 135 M steering wheel (perforated) actually thicker than the base 135 wheel?

And a favor to ask - Can someone who has the 135 M perforated wheel above measure the wrap around circumference of the steering wheel (not including the thumb portion, of course) and post it here..?

Thank you.

Should be able to do that.

I have the M3 steering wheel on my 135i but I am 6MT. I know the M3 DCT paddles won't work with the auto trans without modification, but I think the physical mounting points are the same between both wheels. So installing the stock paddles on the M3 wheel should work just fine.

Yes, yes I did do this mod. Sorry I never updated this thread. I must say the M3 steering wheel is one of my favorite mods. It feels so good in your hands. Its amazing how much the touch of a soft leather wheel makes on the driving characteristics of the car. I really recommend this mod. Btw... I am 6MT also, so no paddle problems for me.

I think I paid 330 euros without the German 19% sales tax/VAT. My dealer gave me a great deal on the wheel. I think that 330 euro price was with a 20% discount off of BMW's list price(and no taxes). Plus my dealer only charged me 13 euros to install the steering wheel! How can you say no to THAT price!

The M3 wheel is really the way to go!
