Question I Think I Had Better Get the Extended Warranty!

At around 20K miles, I am experiencing some issue. The first is if I'm crawling along in traffic, the engine surges, RPM bouncing, and sometimes it stalls. The next problem is when I'm stopped at a light or stop sign, the engine might stall.

Well that doesn't sound too bad, but the next one gives me nightmares. If I start off from a stop and the DCT shifts up a gear or two then I slow down, the transmission shifts down into 1st with a loud clunk.

I had a lot of experience with automobile sounds, and clunks are never a good sign. I looked at a schematic of the DCT, and there is no way that any mechanic could repair this thing unless he worked for NASA. Out of warranty, it would cost a fortune to fix or replace!

With an extended 3-year 60K miles warranty, I could have peace of mind with the car for a total of 7 years.

So has anyone had any problems with the DCT?

Wasn't this problem fixed with the Software update?

I opted to not do the software due to claims of it nurfing the DCT's performance. I always drive in manual with sport turned on to keep the clutch from constantly going through 1st to 2nd.

Yes, but not the part where the transmission shifts down into 1st with a loud clunk.

Also, PPK has been rumored to help somewhat with the 'regular' known DCT issues.

BTW, no problems here so far.

Even with PPK I get the rather rough clunk when it drops down into first. I usually keep it in 2nd for that reason.

I assumed it was normal.

I changed the fluid 10k ago and the fluid was crystal clear and the filters had minimal crap in them.

Are you still under any kind of warranty?

Nope. Sitting at 70k miles.

Haha exactly.

Luckily if that does happen I have a family member who actually rebuilds transmissions for a living.

I got a warranty for mine and I'm so happy I did. I have some "minor" issues I'm waiting to pile up so I can bring it in and get them fixed all at once for $50. Probably looking at 2k+ in stuff

I'm assuming I got the latest software when I got my new transmission as the paperwork mentioned updating the software and all my codings (like turning off the turn signals a DRL) were reset. The issue of the transmission hesitating when coming to a stop seems to have gone away and I've still got some pops from the exhaust.

I got two hard down shifts in a row into first today, I wouldn't describe it as clunking but it definitely surged and it's never happened before. I have 32k on the clock.
