CONVERTIBLE HELP - someone pushed in the little square and top won't go up

So....my wife took the 135i convertible by for one of our kids to see (we just bought a used one). The top was in the open position folded away. A bunch of our kid's teen friends gathered around, jumped in the back, then jumped out and pushed down on the little square plastic part that pushes down as the top operates. Then someone tried to put the top up instead of just leaving it alone and the longer piece popped off. Now I'm not sure if one of the pieces is broke or just needs to be popped back in.

I see on a video that the square plastic plate drops down and then slides forward to make room for the convertible frame arms to fold down when opening the top.

- Does anyone have suggestions on how to get the little plastic square plate back the grooves and connected correctly?

- Is there a way to pop off the plastic piece that's like a foot or so long that the black square piece goes into?

Thanks all.

You are lucky I saw your post 😂 You may have to replace the whole side quarter panel. I did mine few months ago. You will have to unhook the cable from the rear lid hinges when replacing with new.

Ah...so the whole cable itself has to be replaced? How does it come lose from the rear lid hinge arm? Looks like it's kind of rivited in there?
