Interested in coverage for my 2008 135i

Sounds like a good idea with the group buy. I have a 2008 135i with 29,000 miles. I'm looking to get the 7 year 70,000 extended warranty and/or the extended maintenance.

Current quotes look like this:
Extended maintenance = $2095 MSRP (best I found from multiple dealers: $1895)
Extended warranty for 7 year / 70,000 - Gold = $2890, $2940, $3140 (different dealers)
Extended warranty for 7 years / 70,000 - Platinum = $3044, $3300, $3500 (different dealers)

Sounds like most of you are interested in getting this for your new M1's? Hopefully I can be a part, otherwise will continue on my sole-quest. Not in any hurry, as my in-service 4 year expires next July, so will ultimately need to decide and buy before then.

Slats, your input and point of view is, I assure you, appreciated by the forum as a whole. While you shouldn't have to explain your background, I'm glad you did- it is always hard to come to terms with (and appreciate, for that matter) the input of someone whom you have never met and who's only communication with you has been in writing without the chance for emphasis or clarification. Thanks for chiming in.

I didnt really expect a write up, but thanks, and welcome aboard

I appreciate you took the time to do that. If you look from my point of view, new member, 3 posts, its not screaming credible on face value. Usually in cases like that on forums its a troll with an ulterior motive. Im glad that wasnt the case.

As for the warranty, I have never bought one before because I agree with your points to some extent. However, with all the technology and the forced induction on top of the fact that I plan on keeping this car for a long time. I thought I would look into it. I have a friend who swears by it, he had issues with his car and having the extended warranty saved him big $$$. I understand its one data point and could be a huge outlier, but up to this point thats all I had with people I know and extended warranty experience(s).

If it was a big chunk of change Id second guess it, I still will weigh my options, but the expense seems to be minimal for the peace of mind.

Especially if a sizeable discount could be had with the group buy. I'm still waiting to see how the numbers shake out.

But again, slats point on what actually will be replaced under the extended warranty and what caveats are in place are something we should all be well aware of.

+1 to that

My friend that I was speaking of actually had to pay when he had warranty work done, because although the parts were covered none of his gaskets were. It still was a huge savings since the parts would have been expensive if the warranty hadnt covered them but he didnt expect to be hit with a bill for a long list of gaskets.

I dont know how much of a difference it makes but his was 3rd party coverage and I am only looking at genuine BMW warranties for the GB.

I heard
1. it had to be bought from the dealership you got the car at
2. it had to be bought within 90 days of vehicle purchase.

If thats not the case then I can look into getting that for everyone as well. I'll try to call the local dealership and get a straight answer on that tomorrow. I leave for ED on Monday so I cant promise I can have something before the weekend, but I will try.

This is what i have so far for the wheel and tire package (I have called 3 dealerships, 2 I spoke with, the 3rd Im waiting to hear back from)

Both told me you can only buy the genuine BMW package on the day of vehicle purchase only, you CANNOT add it at a future time.

Both also told me anytime after purchase you can add a similar 3rd party product, but it requires an inspection so if you are not local the dealership cannot offer you the product. That eliminates the possibility to include it in this GB.

This is where they didnt agree.... each dealership called the third party product something different (maybe they contract with a different company?). Also, the first told me the product has the same coverage as the BMW one except its capped at $5000 in damages (thats cumulative not per incident). The second dealership told me their third party product is identical to BMWs in every way and does not have a cap on claims.

Tomorrow I will touch base with the third dealership to see if their answers match up.

I'm keen to save some cash while hedging against risk.

And I should say i'm most interested in the PowerTrainPlus version of the warranty.

I work for a corporation that owns a couple BMW stores in TX. Allow me to give my Finance Manager a call tomorrow and see what deals he can do for you all. Maybe a 4th quote will let you all see how good of a deal you are getting from him or if it is better to go with the other one of the other three

Thanks!! You misread my post. The 3 dealers I called was only to get the facts straight on the tire package. I will be shopping the GB around. I have some dealerships in mind, after talking to so many for the car I have an idea of which will cooperate and which wont. Plus, I have a contact or two here through the forum. Ill PM you when the time gets near, this isnt going to be done until production ends and as of now thats Dec 2011. So Im looking at mid-late January 2012.

Yeah let me know. If you all cant find the extended/maintenance warranty in black and white I'll shoot a email over to my finance guy to make sure that he get it for me in black and white so everyone know what is coverd and what isn't. Therefore this will hold BMW NA in check if they do not authorized repairs to your vehicle.
