Squealing noise when braking a little firmer :/
I'm pretty easy on the brakes in my day to day driving but I've noticed that when I brake a little firmer there's a squealing noise... I've called the dealer and they've told me that it's probably because of the brake dust or moisture... I've never experienced this with any of my other cars... Does anyone know if this is normal?

Most of us have it. BMW says it's normal. No fix!

I had this problem too since the first day i bought thr car. Dealer always said the same thing that it was brake dust and it just needed to be cleaned but it would still make the noise and it was super loud and annoying. I recently had my front brake pads replaced when i took the car in for service and ever since then not a single peep. Hope this helps.

I have this problem with mild braking, in my case, it's a build up of brake dust from the parking brake. Only way to get it to really get it to stop is to clean out the brake dust, which is a pain, so I just deal with it. Pulling the parking brake up slightly when driving will sometimes clean it out for a bit and stop the squeeking.

I thought this was the type of brake pad used, out of curiosity are you guys using the bitey dusty ones that cover the rims in dust?

I read on the 90 forum that starting around 2010, BMW changed the brake pad compound, no to little brake squeal with the new pads. My car was a late 2010 production... and mine squeal like crazy after 50% of the pads were worn down. I am hoping these new brake pads will be quieter. IF your brakes still queal - have your dealer repalce the pads and rotors. That should fix the squeal. |

^^ I drove a brand new 328i loaner the last few days. I thought the brakes were much better than the stock brakes on my car. I didn't notice any dust or noise, and the feel was excellent.

I just recently went through a brake squealing issue with my car at the dealer as well.
From the dealer I received the same canned response that all you did as well. I agree that for most part, a little squealing is to be expected due to the performance oriented pads our cars use. In my case, the squealing was excessive and happened all the time. It was honestly embarrassing. Still, the dealer was steadfast in their response and told me that BMW would not do anything because this is normal. I eventually needed to bring my car in for an unrelated issue (gotta love these cars), and I brought this up again. The SA agreed to look at the brakes this time. It turns out there is actually a recall for faulty sensors and mine had been installed wrong. The sensors were sticking out further than the pads causing premature plastic-on-metal contact. They replaced the sensors and the pads and now there has been no squealing at all. I suspect that as the pads wear it may come back a little, but the original squeal was awful. Anyways...long story, but anyone with excessive squeal should mention this. The SA went on to admit that around 1 in 4 cars that he looks at with squeal turn out to have this issue. |

my brakes squeal if i am too mild with them in city driving
take her for a spirited drive with some good brake action and you'll find that the squeals are gone
