Looks awesome. Wonder how the fit is. Always leery of aftermarket panels. Seen a bunch look really bad!

Not much, I figure. I bought one of these hoods used, but have decided not to use it. The vents are small and are not in an optimal position for heat extraction [purposes.

Instead, I'll be adding some vents to my stock hood.

Hmm interesting. I want a vented hood but i am very concerned about water drainage. The new corvettes hood has some type of drainage around the vent

Yeah, kind of a pain. If you get bored and feel like taking the time to pack it let me know. I am sure it can be sent freight.

The vents wound't do much about cooling, and other problem is making the engine bay dirty because dust will get in from there.

So the vents are just for the look

Stick a sticker down the vents, win win. Cool look, no dust and water going down

Yes, you'll have a hard time finding a carbon fiber hood that uses the stock latching mechanism -- their construction simply doesn't allow it.

Neil,

Have you considered using ceramic coating to the exhaust manifold and a turbo blanket to combat underhood temps? I take it the underhood temps are causing some of the performance issues you experienced during One Lap?

I didn't have any heat-related problems during the One Lap.

But with all the new power, I anticipate that IATa are likely to be an issue on hot days during long track sessions at Summit Point, VIR, etc.

In addition to venting the hood, I'll likely improve my cold air intake system and may increase my fueling capacity so I can run E30-E40 since ethanol is so effective in cooling charge temps.

I believe you but just curious. Why doesn't the car pictured have pins or evidence of a latching mechanism? Could it be steel?

Anyone have ideas on this? I've seen other pictures of people with this type of hood with no hood pins and I'd like to know how they do this as well.

Best bet is that its something like this from schmiedmann. Full fiberglass may be heavy enough to not need the aerocatch. http://www.schmiedmann.com/en/bmw-e8...roduct=MOTED12

I have heard that you can use carbon fiber hoods without the aerocatch... but you should never go above a certain speed.
