Hey Larry,

Thanks for the review plus impressions. Your remarks have solidified my decision to leave the little monster with stock boost - I'm too old for that much fun, uh, power. Not saying added boost is a bad thing, not at all, were I a young man, gripped with frequent fits of unquenchable testosterone imbalance, absolutely more boost would be introduced into the little guy. Lay off the little guy needing boost comments...

thanks Larry,

Its always good to get a review of an item and reason for choosing one item over another and a collage fund probably is the best reason to choose one over another esp when all have great names and reputations.

Thanks for the review. I can't wait to add a tune after break-in. My life only goes to 4500 rpm these days.

What octane gas do you have? I'm curious with the addition of the H-pill.

Standard pump gas in MA is 93 for the good stuff, so that decision was a no-brainer for me.

I'm going down to help my buddy finish prepping his newly built race car over at HMS Motorsport this afternoon, and those guys are very interested to give this car a test spin. I'm interested in hearing what those guys think.

If it works as I think they do, theoretically DINAN is going to be far safer for the car. Sounds like the piggy backs just amplify voltages ans signals the computer recieves and processes. If the "H-Pill" is the same type of thing as a boost restrictor pill in the subaru world, its effectively doing the same thing.

If Dinan uses all the factory sensors and readings, its target wg duty cycle, target boost, A/F values etc just get modified. Also, if its all computer controlled, dinan may be able to tap into VANOS activation stuff...

Bang for the buck tho, juicebox sounds pretty impressive. Honestly I am hoping for something like accessport where there are basic changable maps, or you can take it to a pro tuner and dial in a few more hp.

Every car reacts a little diff to every mod, and the safest is if you have a tuner tune YOUR car for YOUR mods.

I took my laptop out to the garage, and brought up the installation guide. It took about 45 minutes to do the JB2 (with one "H pill"), and then button everything up. Once I did that, there is a new solenoid bypass arrangement that people have been testing, and I decided I would use that as well. It supposedly smooths out delivery to a stock-like manner. That piece took another 15 minutes before everything was buttoned up.

So, I start the car.. no fanfare or idiot lights.

Back out of the driveway, no indication of any difference at all in sound, mild throttle application.. all still smoooooth as silk.

Get out on the main road, which is a fairly straight (boo), undulating/hilly (getting better), country road (okay.. that's good). Get out still driving normally, through 1st.. shift to 2nd normally. Then I get on it. WOT. There's 2 words that I actually yelled out loud... HOLY and S***. I thought I should back off instantly, but held it to 6000 rpm.. power shift.. get on it again. Then I realized that I was at watching the speedo go from 60 (at shift) to very rapidly going up to 80-> before I scared myself and backed off. This is a straight country road, mind you, not a highway. (saw nobody else the whole time - like 6 seconds worth)

I did this probably a dozen times pulling from various gears and speeds, and it's stupid fast. You'd need a butt replacement if anybody's butt dyno didn't instantly register the additional doses this thing is giving now.

After a dozen blips to 60-80 from 0, 10, 20, 30 mph, I had a speed induced headache, and came home. The power is there from all rpms, like stock does, no limps, CEL, fanfare... all good.

No plans to get a dyno done any time soon, before people ask. There's none around where I live. The chapter does have a dyno day in the Fall that I'll probably make sure I go to this year...

Next chapter will be real world livability of these mods, but I can tell, that if I want to drive normally, it's very stock feeling. I think I need to go hurl now.

GREAT read Larry, now you made me even more anxious!

Too bad I live in Phoenix and the highest pump gas I've seen is 91 octane, or else I'd get the "H-Pill" as you did.

doubleA, I see you have the same issue with octane that I do. I have read reviews on other forums from people that live in AZ and have used 93/100 octane but don't know where they found it.

I don't think there are that many people from AZ around here. On one of the threads there is a map where people can post there location. There really weren't that many people on the west coast (at least compared to the east).

JB2

I had JB2 since 12000km. (135i)

Good performance gains and no problem.

simple installation, and only cost 99$ for 30-40 hp gain...

I had drag 4 times with a lancer evolution 2010 with intake and blowoff valve; and i made better 1/4 miles time than him....

I had same time than a 300 srt8 but I dont know is tuning.

Only a French Canadian would resurrect a thread about JB2 in 2011....
