Well Bimmerguy...this is a E90 forum. Meaning a forum catering towards people that own 2006 3 series. Now you have a E46 bodystyle, which is not the same thing as E90. Therefore the entire front suspension and setup on these 2 vehicles is completley different. Some of us do have E46's but the vast majority are E90 owners. So maybe you should post this on a E46 forum.
And no I do not have that problem.... |

Just popped outside to do the test - no visual difference between the two full locks. Do you know if the steering wheel in your car has ever been changed?

Sorry to be an a$$ but here's my advise: take it to the freakin dealer. What are you possibly going to learn from everybody ganking their wheels for you?!? You know your wheel is off-center, go make them fix the damn thing! They're being lazy because a) either the rack is messed up and it's going to take a lot of work to fix it (didn't some e46's have steering rack issues or am I off on that?) or b) the wheel will have to be pulled, indexed and put back on straight ... which is, again, quite a bit of work.
Take it to the dealer, make them acknowledge the problem and get it fixed. End of story. |

how much difference is there between the wheel at max left and max right? 1/4 turn , 1/2 turn, less than an inch?
the lane changing thing you mention, is this anywhere or only sometimes? it might just be the crown in the road (slop from center out for drainage) that is causing this perceived difference. |

more questions, when traveling straight down the road does your car pull to one side at ALL times?
when traveling in a straight line is your wheel straight or turned slightly to one side? |

I used to have an E46 and what you decribe is completely normal. The E46 has a different turning cycle in right hand circles than in left hand circles. Itīs even in the tecnical data. 10.6 metres in left hand cylces and 11.3 metres in right hand cycles. Thatīs why you can turn your wheel further to the left than the right.
It has to do with the position of the steering box and limited clearance to one side. Thereīs nothign wrong with you car. So theres nothing to worry about there. If you know how to read german, hereīs an explanation as to why this is so: http://www.auto-treff.com/bmw/vb/sho...threadid=56797 http://www.bmw-drivers.de/viewtopic.php?p=100985 Btw, am I the only one who understood what the OP was saying? OP: a few paragraphs would help.

Itīs normal on the E46 and maybe some others, but not all BMWs. As I wrote, the turning cycle is smaller to the left than the right, so yes, you can tun the steering wheel more to the left than the right.
