Oil Oil Oil...

Hey guys, i just wanted to get a feel for how much oil your 1 is going through. I added oil to mine about 1500 miles ago and it already is more than half way through that oil (according to the digital dipstick). Im concerned i may have a leak somewhere, however i don't smell oil, and I'm not smoking.

This is probably irrelevant since mine is a 2011 with a different engine, but according to the digital measure it used too little to notice in the first 5,000 miles.

Do you do lots of short trips? Water/condensation in the oil - will make the gauge read false. When was your last oil change? Have you checked under the car in the usuall places, like turbos and clutch area, oil filter cap?

Perhaps its time to change your oil and make sure the correct amount of oil is in your engine. Then keep an eye on it.

It's about 1 quart from the max to the min level on the dipstick. If you're going through that much oil you'll see it on the underbelly of the car or on your driveway.

On most of the street driven N54's I've seen they go thorugh little to no oil between changes.

5500 miles, hard and spirited driving still at max level.

Well, contrary to these other few posts, my car actually does consume a fair amount of oil. I bought it new and it's always been this way. I've asked about it on a couple different dealer visits and had the same response that some cars consume more oil than others and that I shouldn't be concerned. I'd say maybe 1 quart consumed every 4-5K miles. I do have a lot of blow by as evidenced by oil residue in charge pipe. I punish the car on a daily basis in 100 deg weather too though...

I hope you're changing your oil more often then. I wouldn't be just sticking to the service indicator.
