DCT Transmission Malfunction Warning

... Going on day 4 with my 135i at the dealer and getting tired of driving the 328 they gave me. 4,800 miles since it came off the boat.

Warning cropped up last Friday just after I got off the freeway and car started to jerk around like it was being operated by someone who didn't know how to drive a stick. Message said car was driveable but with reduced gear selection so drive moderately and take it to the dealer. Took it in Monday and they have been checking it and testing ever since with no resolution. SA just called and said they want to keep it another day. System shows fault occurred 3 times and they are trying to drive it so it crops up again so BMW will allow them to "reprogram the car" or, worst case, replace the tranny.

Talked to a guy over on the X6 board who has had the same problem with his car, so it doesn't sound like a DCT- or 1-specific issue. Just wondering if anyone over here has experienced this problem and, if so, how (or whether) it worked out.

Man, that sucks. Nice to see you pop up after our long boat ride, just wish it were for better reasons. Hopefully they can get it figured out and any day having to drive a 328 instead of a 135 is incredibly painful, but will also make you appreciate the hell out of it when you get it back, fixed and perfect again. Please let us know what they find out as well as a fellow DCTer.

Only ~2100 miles on the clock here,

Thanks Greg. Have only lurked around a bit since we docked because the car has been great (til now) and my need for mods has been pretty limited (added some tint and may replace the angel eyes but that's about it).

I will post more tomorrow or as soon as I hear what's going on. After waiting that long for the build and the boat this is killing me. But biggest thing I want is for them to get it fixed ... and it seems from their response they have seen this issue before and are taking their time to get it right.

They think it's a software problem or mechanical problem or they just don't know at this point? It's so dumb, cause you'd think they'd just redo the software and see if it still does it. I just don't want them to say we can't replicate it and hand it back or do what they think will fix it and it doesn't.

So, if they take too long or can't figure it out, take it somewhere else perhaps. I had to do that once with my last one with unbelievably squeaky brakes.

Hope they get it sorted and you're back enjoying her in no time. And perhaps you'll need to get her a nice gift upon return. I'd highly recommend ditching the runflats if you haven't already, and the performance exhaust is to die for and completely orgasmic.

Got her back from the dealer last night. According to the notes there was a 5A63 and 5A62 DCT Fault (don't know the specifics of those codes, maybe someone else here does). They opened a PUMA ticket, did a bunch of tests, then got authorization to and reset the transmission and torque software. I am going to be putting the DCT through its paces to see if the fault recurs -- don't want it to, but next step is a new transmission, and if its going to happen would rather it happen sooner rather than later. Seemed fine on the way in this morning, so fingers crossed it really was just a software glitch.

Runflats going as soon as one blows, then its a new set of Pilots. Not leasing, so no need/desire to save em for the turn in.

Bet you were happier than all hell to get her back, huh? Although perhaps a bit tentative.

Glad to hear for now at least that it may just have been a software problem. I'd make sure to use all the various modes, too in testing it out - try the sport button on for a bit, DS mode for a bit, full manual mode for a bit, and maybe sport button on + DS or manual mode, to really test it out.

Maybe it's a good thing to have that done post break-in since it may have learned any babying during that time. Enjoy and hopefully we'll never hear another thing about this.

How is this turning out for you?

I have a 2013 135i, I had a transmission malfunction at only 400 miles on the clock, and they pointed to a leaky transmission pan... That was replaced and a full software update was done.... Just had another transmission malfunction 1 day after I got the car, at under 500 miles. The car hasn't see over 3k rpms..

My advisor is sending me the fault codes today so I can compare to yours and others cases.

Too bad there isn't a system where you can make the decisions about what gear to be in.

Your comments are at times somewhat disappointing to a fellow N52 1'er enthusiast, although you no doubt make up for it.

Nothing to do with 135s, everything to do with the industry shift to automatics.

It funny how fast a thread goes from curious/informative to DCT vs manual comments.

Hey, I'm curious too why these errors pop up. I haven't had any yet, but at least I have a place to refer to if they do come up. The dealers don't always give you the full story so others having problems, sites like this are a wealth of info.
