M License Plate Frame = Poser?

Am I a poser for using the M license plate frame on my 128i M-Sport? I counted. There are already 9 M's on my car the way it came from the factory. I don't think this is the same as putting an M badge on the trunk. That would definitely be a poser move.

do what you like

and people are simply entitled to their own opinions

for me, if it ain't factory, and it's not m, it's poser.
if it's a factory option, it's sketchy, but hey, it's factory.

I say no. But I also don't understand all the hate for someone putting an M badge on the trunk. It's your car you can do what you want. Plus M-Sports have the M badge all over anyways.

when the factory puts 'M' badges on the shifter or the steering wheel or even the door sill to represent the "M Sport" package it is saying that those parts are similar to those used on the M cars.

Putting an M badge on the back of your car is not the same thing. That just means that the owner is a thick clot.

As long as you aren't putting a badge on the trunk and therefore claiming the model of your car is something different, then you are good. The "M" I feel is almost a brand, in and of itself. It's like wearing a pair of Jordan's... As long as you don't change your name, wear all the Jordan crap you want, no one should flame you for trying to impersonate him. Probably a terrible analogy...

Just do what you want haha. Haters gonna hate.

Eh, I don't know how to explain what I meant by the comment. I understand why it's frowned upon and I personally won't put an M badge on my car. I would rather remove them, this is actually the first car I've ever added the model badge to. The trunk was so plain without the 135i. /rant

In the end it's just a plate frame

IMO, any ///M's put on by the owner, specifically on the exterior (trunk, grille, license plate, etc.), makes you a poser.

That's a curious response to someone who's signature contains a 128i front spoiler painted with M colors. Am I missing something?

You should do it! It will look great on the car and tell everyone a little something about the owner as well. There is other paraphernalia like bumper stickers and what that that would dress up the car real nice also, for that extra touch. Show the world.

What if I just like the letter M? Come on. That's the exact same thing.

nope.

M refers to the production car badge. the colours refer to BMW motorsport racing colours. Quite different actually. Those colours were used on even the 2002 Turbo well before there was ever an "M" car.

THERE WAS NO "M" when this came out:

and of course....

Oh, I see. He's saying that his production street car is a factory backed race-car. Got it.

Wow your flaming the members in the tii group buy in another thread!

And to the op, no that doesn't make you a poser. My car came with m plate frames and it's not an Msport. I tossed them because of the dealer name. I'm not getting paid to advertise for them lol.

I think there is a difference between having the M on the license plate frame than attaching a M badge to the car. Putting a M badge on a non-M car is a poser...not sure about the M on the license plate when BMW puts the M logo on the door sill, steering wheel, etc.

It seems it is difficult to explain simple concepts to you---especially as before today you probably thought those colours were "M3 colours". LOL.

I see it like this:

The difference between a car badge and letters on a license plate frame is that by convention, car badges show the make and model of the car. Obviously people can put whatever badge they want on the car but by default, people assume those designate what type of car it is. So in my mind, putting an M badge on a non M car would be poser.

In contrast, license plate frames can contain anything. People commonly use frames that contain pictures of their interests/hobbies, e.g. sports teams. So having M license plate frame isn't poser.

You are totally right about the M3 colours! I also thought my 128i had a turbo! As a matter of fact, I just learned that BMW makes motorcycles too! And did you know there is an M5? Wow! I've learned so much today.

the fact that you thought the M badge and the colours are the same idea----tells me you were clueless from the beginning; no really.

you do realise that people often support their favourite marques for motorsport right? it doesn't mean it's a race car. It's called race car livery? do you know what a race car is? do you know what a car is? LOL....oh boy.

Ha ! I had the M plate frames on my 128 MSport too, and had the same concerns. When I turned in the lease, I took off the frames and put them on my newly leased Volvo S60 . They look really good! So far no one has tried to run me off the road, but I dread the day I park next to a true M Car and get the glare.
