The torque profile alone has me very curious to how it compares with the M3.
I only live 10 minutes from work and bad traffic is non-existent in this state so the time I spend in it will consist of our long I decide to drive around before coming back home. I keep coming back to the 335 in terms of a viable substitute but a couple of things keep pushing me away. 1) I already have a 330i so I won't really be gaining anything new from getting a 335 in terms of styling etc. If I didn't have an E90 already then this would be a different situation. 2) the 335 will be a impressive performer but will not be in the league with this M3. Even with the 300 HP and TQ, it will be close to a 1/2 second slower in the 0-60 (based on what we know for now) and probably close to 3/4 of a second slower in the 1/4 mile. Since I have a E90 sedan that covers the 4-door, great ride, etc part of the stable, this other car can be focused on nothing but performance. In that area between the M and the 335 it's no contest.

I'm doing a sh*tty job of talking myself out of this aren't I?

Looking back at your OP, you didn't really want us to talk you out of it, do you?
Of course I did. I can't believe you'd ask that. Now excuse me while I find the number for my loan officer at the credit union.

yeah. but look at how many 330i owner wanting to trade up to a 335. I know a year is a long time but he's got an E90 so it's not like he's living without a BMW. Soon as the new M3 come out, I can pretty much guarantee he will regret it. haha Im just wanna see if I can talk him out of it.

Right and on top of that I still keep thinking about a comment I made earlier....

"The current M pulls 0-60 in 4.6-4.8 (depending on which mag you read) which is only .1-.2 slower than the new M5 and M6 both of which have 500HP. Do you think BMW will allow the M3 to outrun the M flagship cars that run 20-30K more? I'm not so sure. If that's the case, the old M may be closer to the new M in terms of performance then we think."

Do I really want to wait for a car that will be 10-15K more than this one and could end up being only a tenth or 2 faster?

Back to the future, the old are in the end the new are in the top for two y. The E46 is about to vanish and when that happens buying the last unit could be a bad deal unless they make 20% discount

I, myself am thinking about trading in my 325i for a used M3, like 03 or 04 If i can get enough money this summer. The E90 is a wonderful all around car but I would have to say that the E46 M-coupe is probably the best looking BMW to date, and I would say the closest 50/50 blend of sport and luxury. Bottom line, go and get it, that car wont have you regreting anything.

In September we shall see ?
The car industry has done a major upgrade i believe. The previous against the new its very difficult to ignore the new concept and all the improvements. But with absolute respect for other views.

You do realize the E46 M3 was faster (in a straight line!) than the E39 M5 under the right conditions (let alone the track)? That should nullify that concern.

I have a lot of seat time in the E60 M5. It has slight issues with traction through the first two gears - and you'd expect that, with 500 hp. Slightly iffy traction and 4000 lb curb weight hurt the M5's 0-60 performance a bit. However, even if the M3 runs neck and neck with it to 60, the M5 will pull away at the higher speeds, where that extra 80-100 hp will show itself in full - the M5 doesn't really get into stride until the needle passes 80 mph. Also, the (lighter) M6 is faster than the M5, which goes without saying.

As anybody will tell you, the M cars aren't about raw straight line performance. BMW will handicap the 335i so that it's not a particularly appealing alternative to the M3. The engine is one thing, but speed isn't everything. The M3 will have an LSD, a much better suspension, and it will probably weigh less. All of this adds to the driving experience just as much as power does, perhaps more so. If you want the E46 M3, buy it - that one is perfectly well equipped. All of the new ones I'm finding around the local dealerships here are stickering at over 70k.

It is an absolute classic. It is as stunning to look at today as when it first came out, and it will be stunning ten years from now. Here is your chance to buy one new before it gets replaced. You want it. Your wife wants you to have it. We want you to have it.

Buy it.

My friend just ordered a brand new M3 and that one on the picture is outdated. If you were even considering puting out that cash for one, you can get a much nicer one for 55. Stick with the E90!!!

~ i would hold out and get an e92 coupe... trade the yukon in at that time... this is coming for a guy who had an e46 M3 for over 2 years.

~ the car is getting dated imo.

Thanks for your input. If you don't mind, could you tell me the top 3 things you don't like about your current M3 that you think will be addressed with the E92 coupe.

BTW, nice car.

What do you mean by outdated? It's brand new and the new model isn't released yet.

Thanks for your support in helping me not do this.

Funny story. The dealership is closed until Tuesday so I won't be to do anything before then (if I do try and get it). This Wednesday, the 31st, will be exactly 1 year from the date I bought my 330i from the dealership and the day before our 10 yr. wedding anniversary. Weird coincidence? Good karma? You decide......

My wife's take on it, "Hell, let's just make this an annual tradition and get a new BMW each year." Damn I love her.....

sorry bro, can't help you out on this one. I'm with the "buy it" camp. Like you and Bruno said before, and I wholeheartedly agree, you can get the 335, but it's not a "M". Beside, with the new model coming pretty soon, this would be a good time to get some rebate on the outgoing model.

yeah, your wife is awesome, I'm thinking you'll have to let her buy lots of shoes later on. I can imagine th following conversation going on for years to come:
wife: "hun, I wanna buy that pair of really expensive Italian designer shoes"
you: "no way, it's 1,000 for some stinking shoes"
wife: "yeah, but I let you buy the M3"
you: "okay, let's buy that shoes"
