Massive drone w. race downpipes?

Hey,

thinking of adding downpipes w. race cats (AR racing) to my setup;

400hp ECU tune, aFe CAI, Eisenmann Race

Do you think drone will become unbearable?
Maybe it will reduce drone?

Lets hear your thoughts and/or experience...

Regards

/H

I have AR catless DPs and there is no drone, the rest of my exhaust is stock 1M. I have no complaints at all

Midpipes make a big difference. Adding N55 midpipes made a big difference.

+1.

On my 135i I used to run 4" catless downpipes and a berk full race exhaust. Had some drone in the 2k rpm area. Once switching back to stock axle back and n55 mid pipes but keeping the 4" downpipes on there is no drone at all.

Keep in mind the 1M very likely has high-flow catted downpipes from the factory. Search around, and you'll find some threads.

The words "race" and "cat converter" do not belong in the same sentence. lol.

Its pointless to spend the money and the labor to replace a catted converter with another catted converter. The gains will be very minimul and itsnt going to 100% pass a smell test not throw a code. Just go with the cat-less ones and call it a day. youll be fine.

Just one thing to keep in mind is that the 1///M has higher flowing cats in its DPs than found in other N54s. So moving to a 'race cat' will lead to smaller gains than you might expect.

So to me at least its either decatted DPs or stock.

Go catless all the way through the exhaust. You will love it!! Sounds awesome, no drone and definitely adds power!

I had the fab speed catless down pipe on and no code, very happy with all stock mids and exhaust. Nice.

Tried adding the mad dad mid pipe in and had terrible drone. Removed the next day. Now I'm waiting for my n55 mid pipe... Anyone had these similar setup ?

Yes, Maddad with otherwise stock exhaust sounds amazing. Maddad with non-stock muffler = massive DRONE.

A lot of talk around maddad/N55 midpipes. This will not be the case for me, since i already have the Eisenmann full race, with muffled midpipe.

The question then remains - will this setup create massive drone with catless DP's then?

what do you think

I doubt it, but you may get a raspy sound that quite a few people find with open DPs. The muffled midpipe may take care of this however.

Wondering if any of you guys with MadDad mid-pipes and are experiencing drone have the resonated version? I am running the resonated version of their mid-pipes and their axle back and have no drone whatsoever.

Now, I know you have a 1M and I have a 135i but I have the same motor and am tuned so not sure why you are droning.
