I have heard you arent supposed to do anything to a new car for the first few months as the paint isnt fully cured. Is this true?

The paint is fully cured when you take delivery. It is baked at the factory which is good enough, however, there is at least 1 month from when it leaves the factory to the US, so the paint is cured.

So I told them NOT to prep the exterior of my Jet Black 135i convertible upon delivery. Here's my plan:
  • Twice over, full wash using the two bucket method.
  • Clay the entire vehicle
  • Polish with Menzerna P085rd and a blue pad (Phil's from detailersdomain recommendation on both)
  • 3 or more coats of Z2 with the ZFX additive
  • remove and seal wheels
  • seal brake calipers
Did I miss anything? Will I run into any issues, ie getting any kind of shipping film off or cosmoline etc?

Thanks, can't wait to get it!
Hey blackjack,

What did you decide to use on your convertible top?

Mine is still two weeks out....

I used Raggtopp protectant, it comes highly recommended. A couple of things to watch out for:

The stuff gets everywhere, all over the car, even in my closed garage. So basically, don't use it in the wind lol. It's got a slightly greasy feel but wipes off the paint and windows easily enough. I would use it and let it dry before you wash your car, otherwise you'll ruin your shiny finish.

Also, I applied it in cold temperatures and it didn't appear to dry for quite a while. Yesterday was the first day I could put the car out into the sun and it felt dry after, not the greasy feel anymore. I will apply it in the garage on a hot day and then pull the car out to "bake" in the sun next time I apply it.

Did you use the Raggtopp cleaner before the protectant - or just the protectant? Was your top completely dry before applying? I'm planning to do mine next weekend.
Thanks-

The top was completely dry, and I didn't use the cleaner. I didn't see any need since the top is brand new.
