Taupe interior with black top?
I am hoping to be able to order a 128i convertible this week, and I'm wondering if anyone has the taupe leatherette interior with a black top. I originally was going to get the black interior, but I'm worried about the black being too hot. I'm wondering if it will look strange to have the interior of the car not matching the top or does it look fine?

My wife's 128i has grey leather interior with moonlight black (black with silver threads) and it looks fine. Depends greatly on what your exterior color is.

I want to get Montego blue for the exterior color and I think the black interior will look better. But if the taupe interior looks ok, I will go with that instead to avoid the hot temperature of an all black interior.

My 2009 128i convertible is alpine white with black top, taupe leatherette, and walnut trim. I saw the exact same colors scheme at a dealership in Atlanta and really liked it. I also liked the cashmere silver/moonlight top in the brochure which also was a taupe interior with walnut trim.
I've had nothing but positive comments. The taupe leatherette gets hot enough, I wouldn't want the black. I will probably get tint on the windows and back glass to make the interior more livable when it is really sunny and hot (like today). My only options were walnut and sport package. A mid level sterio was base in 2009 and I am very happy with the car. I added a Garmin 885t on a BMW bracket for navigation, MP3 playback, and bluetooth (hands free) phone. Jim

I've got the black leather and I haven't found it to be too hot at all and I live in Texas! Whatever the technology is in the convertibles with leather seems to work because even with the top down in 104 degrees it's been relatively comfortable.

Thanks everyone for your input. I'm most likely going to go with the taupe interior. I know the leather option has some kind of sun reflective feature so it stays cooler, but I don't think the leatherette has that same feature, so I will go with the lighter color option.

I always prefer to have the interior be lighter than the exterior. To me, it makes the car look inviting. Plus, as you said, it's cooler. I've had black leather, and it can be a bear.
BTW: unless things have changed in the last few months, taupe is a "world color" for BMW (I think that's the term), meaning the ENTIRE interior is taupe. There's little contrasting black. (Silver used to be the other world color, but it's not anymore - last year, it became like the other colors - with contrasting black.) I thought the taupe was a bit dull (sorry to those who have it!), and I didn't like the lack of contrast. Didn't look at all sporty. So I got the Savannah Beige, which has some snap to it, is light, and has the contrasting black. My car is SGM with the moonlight top (which I love).

BTW, if you are trying to keep costs down, have you considered the Crimson Red for $550 less than the metallic options? Tom |

My old 328 convertible was green on tan (taupe) with a black top. It looked great.

Cashmere silver/red leather - interesting combo. Very unique, I think.

I've got Moonlight Black top on Space Gray...it looks "shiny" in the sunlight. Works well with the gray interior too.

I believe all leather interior cabriolets come with "sun reflective technology" to keep it cooler. I have back leather and have no complaints on how hot it gets bearing in mind I do not drop it if it's like +30C out.

I think the best advice is to go to the dealer and see for yourself. Mine is deep sea blue, taupe leather and black top. I love this combo, but agree that matching exterior color with the top is more important. I was very inclined to order it with the moonlight top, but when I saw both that one and the black top, side by side, I thought the black one would look better with the darker deep sea blue.
