Could someone check on this.

A member asked me why I have both km/h and mph on my US model car. That member thinks that you only get that if you do ED. I did not do ED. Are non ED US cars not suppose to have km/h marking in the speedometer?

We all have one. You never had a car in united states that had km/h sign?
All my previous cars had it.

That member has issues; all of us in the US have the same gauge cluster. Even if you do ED, the only difference is you get a first aid kit, warning triangle (both of which you must pack if you want to keep) and floor mats. That is it, they build a US spec car!

You would be hard pressed to find a US car from any manufacturer now days that doesnt have mph and km on it.

I think the idea is that if you ever venture north to Canada you will need km/h...

We used to have mph on the outside and km/h on the inside in Ireland but last year we switched over to metric for speed and interestingly enough we now get gauges with km/h only. I suppose the thinking is that the only mph country left in Europe is now Britain and if we travel over there we should be able to do the kph->mph conversion in our heads at this stage :-)

i think that it is made on US cars because it is easier and cheaper to manufacture only one instrument cluster, rather than two. It also helps knowing your speed limit while visiting our friends in Canada.

Yea but why would a Canadian ever actually want to visit the US is probally what the government is thinking.

I didn't know that... I have a couple of friends at work who live in Canada. I'll have to look in their cars and see for myself..

some canadian spec cars do not have them. I didn't on it on my can-spec S60..but the US-Spec S60 has both. It really depends on the manufacturer...although I think DOT requires it?

all my past cars have had both mph and km/h. the only car i can think of in my family that didn't was an old pontiac from the 70's.

i think all US cars will have this. iirc, the cars i drove in canada only had km/h.

If I remember correctly, E46 only have km/h as well. Not recall E36 though.
