USB Memory Stick Issue
Hi guys
I have a small issue with my BMW Professional Radio and the USB/iPod adapter in the armrest. When I get in I put a USB key in with songs on it, they play fine and all is well. The next time I get into the car, start it as usual and the radio comes on, I have to take the USB key out of its slot and then put it back in before the radio will recognise its there. If I dont take it out and back in, I cant get it to play at all. Has anyone had the same problem and is there a fix? I'm using the same key in the ignition, I wondered if it was to do with the 2 keys having different profiles, but it still does the same to both keys. Thanks |

I'm having the exact same problem. Additionally if I leave my usb stick plugged in and turn the car off the light on my usb stays on. So it seems that power is always feeding it. Don't know if that has anything to do with it.

H'mm doesn't happen with MY09 iDrive. Yes, the USB stick has power all the time as the light is on even when the car is turned off. Putting the key in or just pressing the Start button starts the iDrive sequence and the music plays right off where it was before the car was turned off.

While I do not have the playback issue as the OP I do have the issue with the USB not turning off when the car does. Of course I have not had the patience to sit there and watch for an extended period of time. I also have not tried to lock the car to see if it turns off since the only time I notice it is when I am parked in the garage and there is not reason to lock the car.

I believe it turns off after some time. I have my iPod touch in the car and everytime I open the doors, it awakes from sleep mode and chimes. It does that when it is "plugged" in to a power source. If it wasn't for that feature, I wouldn't have thought it turns off either.

Occasionally my USB stick cannot remember where it left off but that is rare. Sometimes it does take a while (up to 30s) before it "finds" the stick. May you are not waiting long enough for it to read it?

i have an 09 non-idrive, and it remembers the last state of play (picks up at the correct position of the last song and remembers +/- rnd). it does take about 30 seconds to index all of the mp3s to allow me to browse by id3 tag (artist, genre, album). 32gb hp stick if it makes a difference. btw, i am about to get rid of the ipod because i am thoroughly convinced the usb integration works at least as well.

I'll go give it a try, leaving it some more time to see if the USB key appears.

Its a bit annoying as its fiddly to do while driving, once you realise there is nothing on the radio and want some banging tunes! I wonder if there's a fix, I'll give BMW customer service a call. |
