Question What color paint & wood are best with Savannah Beige?

Hi all,

I've spent a lot of time lurking on these forums, and I am looking at purchasing a 128i Coupe in the next week. I am looking at:
  • Manual
  • Premium
  • Sport (non-M)
  • Heated Seats
  • Ipod Adapter
  • Comfort Access

My question to all the experts on this list is: What color paint and wood go best with the Savannah Beige leather interior? I think this interior is very attractive, and I would like to know from folks who have seen this interior , what works and what does not.

Thanks for everyone's feedback!

-Joe

I would say Alpine White, Light Burl Walnut and the Savannah Beige are a winning combination. I came close to buying a coupe just like that but went with a convertible instead.

I'd go Jet black or Black Sapphire metallic and Gray poplar trim for the best contrasts with Savanna.

Montego, TiAg, Sedona, or Crimson all look great with Aluminum, and Savannah Beige.

2009 128i Coupe  [0.00]
My 1er is Monaco Blue with taupe ette (close to the same shade) and it looks amazing, really classic. I would actually go with the taupe leather though, I prefer the way it's upholstered. Just put black mats if you want more contrast. I'd post some pics but haven't taken any yet!

I have told this before and keep saying it.. M-sport is worth every dollar. Don't make the mistake by not getting it.

any one of the blues or blacks will look great with savanna and believe it or not- I saw a space grey on savanna on here and was shocked at how much I actually liked it. personally I'd get the grey poplar regardless of exterior as I can't really handle the brown woods from BMW. I think the only colors I would for sure NOT get with savanna are silver and white, silver and savanna just don't mesh at all and white and savanna is just too blah,

I also recommend M-sport with that black headliner

Thanks everyone for your feedback so far!

@suprakin- why do you prefer the Taupe over Savannah? What about the upholstery do you think is better?

@Evice- why do you think the M-sport is such an important improvement over the std sport package?

Thanks so much everyone!

forgot we were talking 128i, so yes the M sport is a bit more, liek 1150 more? anyway the M shifter and M wheel are definitely worth it on the 128i as is the body pack, the 128i m sport wheels are a pain to clean just by looking at them but the rest of the goodies are well worth it, especially the steering wheel

I think I am leaning towards the Monaco Blue.. I hadn't even considered that until I read supraking's post. I checked out the pics here: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=207545 and now I think I'm sold. I'm tossing back and forth between grey poplar and light walnut wood.

Has anyone have any great photos to compare how they look?

I'm on the fence with the M package, and I'm just not certain it would fit this car. If I were getting a 135, then for sure. But I'm not sure I would get >$1k value out of the M upgrades.

Thanks again fro everyone's help!

JM download the 128i Brochure (or get one from the dealership) they have a Monaco with Beige & Gray Polar in it

Edit: Actually the download version doesnt have the pictures, you have to get hard copy from dealership

if you're on the fence then it's a tough call, especially considering that bmwusa.com says that a 128i with M-sport cannot be had with monaco blue, 135i can, but not 128i, what gives, who knows

My 128i convertible is white with taupe ette and light walnut. There is a picture of a light blue vert in the brochure with taupe and walnut that convinced me it goes together well. Seems like poplar would go better with light greyish interiors but I have a bias against poplar based upon my woodworking experience. The wood in a car is so thin and the finish is what you really contact and it is plastic but walnut is a much nicer, wood with more interesting grain, much higher hardness and much higher strength. Poplar is only used in fine furniture for parts like the inside of drawers that you do not see unless you open them. Walnut is one of our best furniture wood reserved for the best pieces. My bias is to get walnut. The same line of reasoning, my woodworking hobby and fondness for wood, caused me to spend the extra dollars to have wood rather than black plastic trim (which looks pretty good to me, better than I thought it would from the brochure).

Thanks DVDA! I checked the 1 series coupe brochure for 2009 and found Monaco, Savanna, and Walnut--for as many times as I have looked at the thing< i had never noticed/remembered any other color other than the Sedona.

I didn't see a Savanna and Poplar pic.. is there a separate brochure for the 128i and not the overall 1 series coupe.

@Add1ct, I guess that makes my M-package decision easy!

Thanks again!

If you grab a 3 series brochure they have a Monaco with other combinations of trim, the interiors are similar it can give you an idea :-D

Again, its the hard copy not the download version (No idea why they are different lol)

BSM and AW both go great w. Sav Beige IMO. Both are classic BMW color combos, so you cannot go wrong. I personally test drove a BSM w/ Sav Beige and grey poplar interior and it looked really sharp (almost got it, but went with BSM/CR instead) - the grey poplar looks great with the beige - brings out a hint of steel blue in the poplar in certain light that adds a nice dash of color to the interior.

I also agree with the other posters regarding the M sport - definitely get it - you will not be sorry.

BTW - for those who mentioned SGM w/ Sav Beige - recall that this is also a classic combo that was used throughout the 80's on both the MB 560SEC (large coupe) and the 635csi and still looks fresh and great to this day.

Just my $0.02.

I am with you on the Savannah interior, it looks fantastic and really gives a warm, rich look to the interior of the car. I had never seen it in person before I picked my car up and it was even better in person than I had hoped. Plus it's fairly easy to care for. Get the Gray Poplar trim for sure.

Exterior wise, certainly White and either Black work very well with it, as does Blue Water (my combo) and Sedona Red. I agree any of the blues would be great as well. There really isn't much it doesn't go with.

Your option choices look great to me, sport and ZMP are just cosmetic differences so order what you like.

Cheers.

Beige, and for that matter Taupe go with almsot all exterior colors. Crimson Red and Savannah Beige are nice.

Smile

Thanks all for your very helpful feedback!

I placed my order today for the 2009 128i with Monaco Blue Metallic Paint, Savanna Beige Boston Leather, and Gray Poplar Wood Trim.

The trim turned out to be the tough part.. I had dark burl trim in my '2000 328CI and I loved it, but the only burl trim on the 128 was the light colored type and I didn't think it was quite the same. I'm hoping the Gray Poplar will look good on Savanna Beige... I guess we'll see!

Thanks again!
