Dealer says they can't process ANY orders yet...BS?

I've been on the list for a couple months for a 135i. I was a little worried I had not done a final spec on my car so I called my CA to get an update. He said that they aren't able to process ANY orders yet, but they should soon (I'm far from first on the dealers list too). He also mentioned they could only give me $500 dollars off since their profit margin is "very" slim.

I'm pretty sure dealers are making around $5500 a car?

I'm trading in a E36 M3 Convert & ML320, not to mention we just bought a 335ic from them not more than 8 months ago. Shouldn't I expect at least a grand off? Maybe ask for a free option or two?

Cliffs: Are some dealers still unable to process orders? Is $500 off too little for a loyal customer who dumps a lot of money into this dealer's pocket?

I would say any discount on the limited 1er is a deal. Haven't heard of many getting discounts.

I have not heard of anyone getting a deal better than MSRP yet.

$500 off is pretty damn good. I think the margin in the 135 is about $3,000.
And considering most people are paying sticker, and some a buyer's premium, you're not bad off. The financing is where you have to watch yourself. Ever heard of a "Buy Rate"?

And hell I'm not even allowed to buy one yet since I work for the company. But hell, i'm waiting for the 3-door anyway.

Good luck with your purchase.

Cheers

Easy to Get $500 Off

So far the only two dealers I have discussed purchasing a 1-series from both offered me $500 off. Sometimes I wonder if we just discount BMW's more in California or are buyers on this site not trying very hard for a deal?

993 911 - I think you can do better than $500, although getting more than $1000 off is probably a ways off. Don't trade in your cars, sell them yourself and you'll be glad you did.

Been trying to sell my M for a while, but an Auto Vert is hard to sell, especially this time of year.

Cash purchase, another reason they should knock some more off the price.

Thanks, really looking forward to seeing 1 in person let alone taking delivery!

Let me help a few misconceptions from a Center perspective (not to mention the fact I know VERY well where this car is coming from ).

The margin is VERY slim on a 1. If you don't believe me the invoice and MSRP price sheets can be found on this forum; do yourself a spreadsheet and figure out exactly what your Center (in this case my workplace) are making.

ANY discount on a 1 series at this juncture is a courtesy and options are NEVER free/given away.

I'll talk to your sales person tomorrow and see what the delay is.

And you know you'll be getting floor mats

The purchase being cash doesn't give the dealer any incentive to give you a better price because the dealer makes money when you finance through them.

I've gotten 500 offa MSRP as well, but had to call around a bit. Some dealers basically just said it was impossible on this high demand car but i won out in the end . I think 1000 or at least 750 is achievable, or maybe an 1000 dollar package like the sports package for free?

...standard dual climate control...230 hp...6 spd...pw, pl, etc... but no floor mats???

That's hilarious...maybe that's why they charge so much more in Canada...they throw in carpet floor mats.

That said, with the attitude I had trying to make sure my deposit was staying refundable to do my order I can't imagine calling the local BMW dealer and having them over the phone say "sure we'll knock $500 off..."

They may not even include floormats - your Center may have done it as a courtesy for you.

No alarm either. It should be an easy install, but you may still need the dealer to activate it, so make sure you get that in any 1 or 3 series you get.

Called my sales guy today about the status of my order. He says the dealership has only 3 in production now. That is their March allotment. They have not been given their April allotment yet so can't place any more orders until then.

They will get a total of about 16 one series for the year. I'm number 9 on the list, so I will be getting a car for sure this year. It's just a matter of when. He also told me next week they will start calling the people ahead of me on the list to see if they are still solid on getting a car. By doing this he says he will try to move me up on the list so I can get the car as early as possible. His best guess is that I will be in the second or third production run. Sounds like June or July for delivery. I bought my current car from them so no deposit is required.

Just wondering if this sounds correct as many here have already got production numbers.
