parking fines

Anyone here know the go with parking fines?

I parked in Collingwood, didn't have any coins on me, left my car to go get some coins. When i come back (like 3 mins) there's an inspector writing me a ticket.
Inspector said he'd already written it and can't retract it, fair enough. But surely i'm allowed to get coins to pay for the parking spot?

No. I spoke to council about the same thing and they said if you know you are going to be parking in these areas you need to come with coins in the first place. F*cking ars%^oles they are!

Awesome letter! haha. I've written a statement on city of Yarra's website, however, not as eloquently as you haha. Will have to wait and see what they say.

I actually asked the officer "what time frame am I allowed to get coins?". His answer was "there are plenty of free parking spots around this area".

You should be OK. I actually "forgot" to get a parking ticket and when I came back (after 2 hours) an inspector was writing me a ticket. Obviously I was in the wrong and would have sucked up the fine, but I think he must have had a good day. Told me that he already wrote a ticket so couldn't do much but told me to write in to the council/ticket company, tell them that I went off to get change and to quote the officer number on the ticket. Did exactly as he said and a few weeks later got a letter saying the fine had been dropped. Hope it works out for you. Good luck.

If you ever see a parking inspector writing you a ticket, no matter what the circumstances, immediately walk to the ticket machine and dispense a ticket. Then just scan/print it and send a letter showing the time of the ticket and time of infringement. They then dont have a leg to stand on.

+1

I would on top of that go to the back of my car and take out my baseball bat then play baseball with the parking inspector. Happy days.

Melb seems to be vicious with fines. I was ~10-15 mins late back to my car after paying for parking (which had then expired). Usually its alright as I thought in that 10/15 mins hopefully nobody would come by to fine but no.. i return to a ticket lol.

I'm not sure if this is true or not, but i heard rumors of they have sensors in the ground in the CBD, so they know exactly when a spot is about to expire, thats how they get around there so fast.

In general melb CBD if your late by 1-2min.. u've gotten a fine. i've seen parking inspectors waiting by cars for them to expire.

I believe there's also signs up stating your parking starts when u get there, which doesn't really make sense as it doesn't include the time to get your ticket.

shrug.. i've given up and just park in parking structures.

There's this one street in Sydney, I think it's Sussex St at King St Wharf where on a Saturday night the parking on the side of the road inexplicably changes to a no stopping zone after 10pm to 4am. I parked there one time, was 11 minutes late and was met with 2 parking officers having a field day. There were probably at least 100+ cars there all with or in the progress of getting a $300 ticket.

the fucked thing is - parking inspectors get paid more than nurses!

Nurses = have a degree, years of training and have peoples lives in their hands - generally get around $60k including penalties etc.

Parking officers = no degree, just have to be a real asshole - get paid more than $60k for ruining everybodies day.

(Wife's a midwife - its one of my pet hates that parking officers get paid so much!)

At the moment, the sensors in the ground to determine if you have parked there longer than a given time period like only allowed to park in a spot for 10 min maximum and by then you should have moved on. Next stage you will be able to buy a transponder that will talk to the ground sensor so as soon as you park the sensor will know who you are and charge your nominated credit card as soon as you leave. Its a French company making the units using Zigbee communications protocol.
