Got a nail in my runflat.
The car detected a nail in my runflat tire. Gosh, I was so upset I was suprised that the car could detect how little the tire deflated, however. If it was any other car i would have been driving around with a flat.
BTW, has the new "patch" came out yet? I've been out of the loop for awhile :P |

Oh my bad, I should have cleared that up.
Apparently there was supposed to be a September software upgrade (patch) for the E90s. I called my dealer in September and they had no clue what I was talking about. Any updates on this? |

You should be able to have that tire repaired just like any other tire, as long as the punture isn't in the sidewall. Let us know how you make out with it!

I just got a flat in mine yesterday. At first I thought it might be a bad sensor as I only had 2,700 miles on the car (what are the odds?). Then I realized nails and screws ignore car mileage and sure enough I found a huge screw sticking out the bottom of the tire. Luckily it was right in the middle of the tread. Got it patched yesterday, not a problem.

Just wondering since I heard a lot of people won't patch run-flat because of liability issues or something and if people have driven on them for a distance the may have compromised the sidewalls. |

At the risk of being chastised by purists, I took the car to our local "Big O" tire shop. I have always been treated well there, and never had any problems with the skill level of employees. I don't know what type of patch it was, but I called them to see if they patch run flats and they assured me they do it all the time.
I drove the car about 1 mile after the warning came on (I was almost home). I checked the tire pressure and the faulty tire was reading 24 psi. It was flat the next morning. I told my wife (who was going to drop off the car that day) to go ahead and run her morning errands in town before she took it in so she probably drove about 10 miles on it, absolutely flat. She said she couldn't tell it was flat.

My reasoning is based on what my salesman told me about his experience at the E90 launch. One day they ran the car through a pretty extensive slalom course, only to find when they got out of the car one of the run flats was purposely deflated to 0 PSI just to prove a point. He couldn't believe it, he could not tell the difference.
I suppose their could be a long term effect in doing this, but I figured 10 miles of 40 mph driving in town wouldn't do any harm. The tires are really designed to run much longer than that up to 50 mph.

FWIW, I have a Toyota Sienna and our dealer recommended patching if the tire only looses 15psi and is run, or flat, but not run. Replace if tire is run flat for any distance.
Run-flats 'don't get no respect', but I like them.

Sorry guys I haven't been here in awhile.
The nail wasn't on the side of the tire, it was directly in the middle: |......| |...X.| |......| I thought there would be a problem patching the run-flat tires as well. I brought it to Discount Tires where we typically get our tires... they did it for free. |

Sorry if this is a dumb question but with run-flats, what do you do when you get a flat indicator? In the old days you'd put a spare on and then go to a tire shop to get a new tire or a patch done. Is there any need to take the car to the dealer or is it sufficient to just check the tire pressure and if there is indeed a lower pressure on a tire, take it to a tire shop and either replace/repair it? all you have to do is re-initialize the tire pressure monitor, right?
