Looks good. Seems to have a few mods here and there.

I spotted:
Gloss black front grills
Gunmetal painted wheels
Painted brake calipers
Exhaust system
Alcantara steering wheel trim
What appears to be an added button button next to the idrive controller in the center console

I wonder if that added button could be for an exhaust valve?

I noticed that alcantara added to the steering wheel and the black kidneys. Missed the brake calipers, exhaust, and painted wheels. Good eye. But I was looking on my phone during a business meeting, so forgive me

This car has too may things I don't think I want, but I might still go look at it because I've never seen Valencia Orange in person up close before.

The Six Best Unreliable Cars You Can Buy From CarMax
http://jalopnik.com/the-six-best-unr...max-1687770994

"Somehow, CarMax always seems to have a healthy supply of BMW 1 Series Ms. And while there are always a few commenters who question my characterization of these things as 'unreliable,' I think we'd all agree that the best way to own a used high-performance BMW of questionable ownership history is with a long, comprehensive warranty issued by an automobile dealership who primarily makes money by selling service plans on Altimas."

I don't agree with above.

Unless you plan on putting a lot of mileage on your 1M, save the money and self insure. Other than the well known HPFP and waste gate issues (the later typically mileage or tune related)... you're dealing with a reasonably well sorted series car w/ bits of the highest production-volume M car ever (E9x M3).

BMW does the work, while CarMax (is supposed to) foot the bill, with a deductible (but see my post above). Also- be sure to check the fine print, there's typically a lifetime benefit between $5-10,000. Given that it'll likely cost you $3,000+... you're likely better off keeping the money in a savings account.

Personally, I worry about the collectability of a CarMax car. I'm certain there are cases where a clean car was sold to CarMax because CarMax had the best price... but it's more likely that the reason CarMax was best price is because more discerning buyers weren't interested in the car (due to modifications, a lot of track time, etc.).

Of course, Doug DeMuro disagrees (he did so again, today, in fact).

I believe this car was owned by a member in Virginia. A good portion of Carmax cars come from owners on here. I have no idea where the hate is coming from. You can buy a 1M there cheaper with a warranty for those that are scared about what this car will cost post warranty. If peace of mind is what you want, then it will not be more affordable than here. Also to assume these cars were abused is another thing altogether. Didn't a member just recently post that his white 1M is at a carmax??! I'll say it again, carmax reduces hassle and offers good prices. Not everyone wants to deal with sporadic "interest" emails, false statements of "wiring" funds or tire kickers..

The vehicle history report on car max shows it was originally in Connecticut and then Jacksonville. I'm going to try to see it tomorrow for the hell of it.

I'll post more from my computer at home. Just saw it. got pictures too. It's pretty beat up. Paint peeling off wheels, all 4 wheels rashed, rear tires toast, engine covered in sand, has clearshield stuff but put on really poorly, gouged chin, loose electronics in trunk, etc...

For the $$- I'd take a closer look at the Moss car (i.e. hire someone to PPI).

It's a stripper, has fewer miles, has never been modded, and you know what it looked/looks like at it's worst (and what paint work was done).

So here's the stuff I saw

The exhaust looks like it says Magnaflow?

Front lip:

Every single wheel had at least one of these:

Another nice part of the wheels:

This shows the 'trimming' of the clear shield on the hood edge- I assume there are installers who do better than this. Also, that white stuff I have no idea what it is:

This shows how the engine bay was all sandy.

Would need new tires immediately, especially the rears:

Is this supposed to be loose?

Overall, very unimpressed. The thing that looked like an added button next to the nav controller was just a plug- he must have had something wired through there? Who knows....

I miss my old car.

Wow, that thing is trashed! Look at all the rust! Do not walk RUN! Looks like it could have seen flooding. I'm going to go hug my 1M now and tell it how much I appreciate it.

Wowsa!

This is why I wouldn't buy a CarMax car- yuck.

Would much rather pay up for a clean car than roll the dice on a CarMax w/ MaxCare.
