135i Coupe, help me decide!
Hello,
I posted this somewhere as well, but think it was the wrong forum...oops. Want to thank you all up front for your inputs. I am trying to purchase my first ever BMW. I am in the military and stationed in germany, so I get some pretty good discounts over here . I Test drove a 135i coupe and that car is amazing. I mean the sounds the HP/TQ and damn...so much to mention. I also drove drove the 328i it is an awesome car sound is...questionable, the interior is very nice and spacious and MPG is great. I can get the 2013 135i for 40k (tax free) out the door, maybe a bit less (picture with specs is attached). Where I need your guys help is in the following. I know a few poeple in the forum is having the same question as me -> Should I get this or the 328i (i got the wife and kid, but who cares right, LOL she is getting her Q7). Another thing that is bothering me is when are they coming out with a new design for the 1 series or the "2 series", should I wait? 40k is a lot of money and I want to make sure I make the right decision. Also do you guys think the 2.1k is worth the navigation system on the 135i? THANKS |

The iDrive system is very nice, I understand hey have changed the system on the 13s and it works much better. I would also go for BMW Assist and Bluetooth if you want to use your phone in the car in the states.

Nav is not worth it with smart phones and cheap handheld GPS available. Get the M-Sport package for upgraded seats and higher top speed limiter.

Are the sport seats standard equipment now? If not, definitely go for the M Sport package. The stock seats are absolutely horrid...unless they've dumped them for 2013.
I think you'll be way happier in the 135, it's truly a blast and is so unique on the road in comparison to a 328. I'm not even sure I'd wait for the redesign. I think the current model is awesome looking and the F20s are so...squarey. The current 135 is a monster.

I wouldn't base any decision on when a so-called 2 series will be rolled out. The rumor is 2014, but it would be no surprise to me if it's well into 2015. Then expect first-year model bugs and glitches.
I would get the 135 (with msport) if it were me, it's so much more fun to drive (not even close IMHO) than the new 328 if that's what you're going for. |

For sure get the M-Sport (unless it comes standard for 2013). For the looks, comfort, and resale it is a no brainer...

I am waiting for the guy to send me the quote, without the nav sys and adding the mSport pkg. From what he sent me before with these options (Conv. pkg, mSport pkg, 7-speed DCT and heated front seats) it will be 38k out the door.
Do you guys think that is a good price? Also does anyone know if it is worth it to get the HK sound system? thanks, |

The most important package/option on the 135i is the M-sport package (higher speed limiter, higher quality + more comfortable seats, greater ease in adding BMW approved power kits if you choose to do so). Nav, in my opinion is rarely used unless your frequently driving to unknown areas, and almost non sense if you have a smart phone. Just my 2 cents. Good luck with your purchase

What Diver said. Especially about the M-Sport package and upgraded seats. Use the money you'll save on the nav to get it. Good move on the Harmon Kardon. It's a must IMHO. Oh, and def go with the 135i over the 328i. You'll be glad you did.

F30 328 E90 335d E90 335i The F30 was an interesting car, it got pretty good gas mileage (although when I drove it hard it wasn't much better than my e88). But I couldn't wait to give it back to get my car back. The 135 is just a better driver's car, just like you described on your test drive, the sound, the torque, the hp, just can't beat it in that small of a package. On a side note, the 335d was a beast, seriously considering it if I have kids anytime soon, anything that gets 40mpg at 80mph and has 400+tq stock gets my attention. |

And agreed with everybody above about the MSport package. Dumbest thing I did was not get the sport seats. The seats on my car are TERRIBLE.

Timing of new models is at least one year away and the 2 series is probably outside that range based on what I have seen. Is it a better car depends on your needs. The 135i will outdrive and outperform the 328i, be more fun to drive and easy to get in and out of tight spaces. The 328i is a great four door hauler and again IMO a bit underpowered when fully loaded up. It is a great car if you need to transport 3 or 4 people on a regular basis. As it is a bit larger you can carry more and it has a bit more heft to it than a 135i. |

Off on this side note with you, I couldn't agree more. I had a 335d as a loaner and at first I though, crap, a diesel. Wrong. Very wrong. That thing pulled like a monster, was fast, got great mileage, and didn't sound anything like a diesel. Very impressed was I.

Just so everyone knows as of now you can get sport seats as a 400 dollar stand alone option which is really the highlight of msport for the 135. Only other things you are getting with it is upgraded speed limiter (how often will you be above 130 unless you live in Europe) different wheels and a few m badges here and there. No body panels change (unless its a 128 and then it receives the 135 bumpers) and the suspension does not change again unless its a 128 every 135 msport or not has the same suspension. Just wanted to make others aware as I know the big reason so many people on here push msport is the seats. 400 for the option alone is pretty good and save the rest of that what msport pack cost and buy some new wheels which most replace anyway. That's what I did. People think my car is an msport all the time. Nope just sport seats

2 series comes out end of this year (production begins november), so I would hold out a bit to hear more information, and then play your cards. Actually, you can just head over to the 2 series forums and see images of interior, pics, etc. FYI the 2 series interior looks pretty similar to the F30 her.
I would still pick the 135i over the 328i though : )
