ISO Question

If I have the JB4 G5 Board and do not have ISO, do I only need to upgrade my firmware and download the hexfile that Terry provides or do I need to do something with the diodes too? I want to be able to take advantage of e85 more.

You need do all that and snip the diodes I the actual board which is super easy other than opening the car up to get to the jb4.

Theoretically, would running 30/70 (e85/93 octane) give any results with JB4 G5 without ISO if I run Map 5?

i got a N55 ISO question as well... trying to get my setting all dialed in...

I cant find auto shift damper or default wastegate settings options...
Or is auto shift damper = PID Damper?
and Default Wastegate = Wastegate Adaption Value?

Dont want to put in wrong values and mess it all up...
thanks

Hmmmm let's say my car has 380 whp. What do you think would be the hp gain running 30/70 e85 without ISO and then the hp gain with ISO?

Lets just put it this way...

JB4 = fun
JB4 + e85 = more fun
JB4 + flex e85 = super fun
jb4 + flex e85 + ISO = epic FUN.

Not sure what your numbers would be, but its worth the time to convert, hands down.

No way to guess, to many variables. Only answer is "more". I dynode at 375 on 93/94 octane with a G4 on a N54. Tried 3.2 gals of E85 into a full tank & the car was stronger, no way to know how much without a fresh dyno run. Don't know if ISO adds a lot of power but it controls boost way better & the logs are better.

I'll have to do some logging before I go ISO to see where my trims and AFR are.

I figured it would be more, but after you cut the diodes, it runs hot and can melt the housing. Just wondering if we are talking 5whp or 25whp. I am running 30% e85 now without ISO and can feel a difference. Maybe I'll just stick to where I am, assuming my trims and AFR are good, because I don't want to push the limits on my DD.

i just picked a JB4 for my N55..if i run ISO and remove the diode its going to melt the case..i use this car as my DD...if i go on a long road trip is it going to start a fire or anything!?

Someone had mentioned earlier that they removed the housing part of the JB4 to prevent overheating. I don't take any responsibility if anything happens though

Had an alpha test ISO unit on the car since last fall...no melted housing on my DD.

Never heard of it melting the case, only warping it. I just looked at mine the other day. I never put the case on it and just set it in the tray by itself that is next to the one with the 12volt power supply that you tap in to. There is nothing else in there for it to touch and since it has the DB9 and DB25 pins connected, it fits just right and doesn't move around. No signs of any issues and I do quite a few back to back pulls.

yea that was what I was wondering..so I guess no one is leaving it in the plastic case then? is that the consensus?

Just read the thread...

You realize ISO stands for "isolated" boost control right? By removing the diodes you're not "increasing power", you are givng the JB4 full control of your boost control. This way it's not fighting the DME for control and overboosting is not as much of an issue and it's smoother.

It also has nothing to do with you running E85...do as you said and log your car pre E85 so you get an idea as to where you're at. Then if things look good, start with 3 gallons of E85 to a full tank. Log again and see how things look, if they're good you can keep uping that percentage to about 50%. My car won't take 50%...my trims max out but my AFRs and timing is good..so for now I just run 40%. Will likely go to the backend flash to let it control fueling.

No that's not the consensus. AFAIK most people are not having heat issues with the case even though the G5/ISO runs a bit hotter then the G4.

Some that did have heat issues were related to some non-default waste gate settings that was keeping the circuit active generating heat. As I said above mine has been on for months, used everyday, with no signs of heat damage.

I missed this post since I was posting at the same time.

I agree with BEAR, I haven't really seen too much talk about it, I just knew there was some, and since it's not a big deal, I just removed mine from the get go.
