BMW 1M to be One-and-Done in US. Production Ends December 2011. No 2012 Model.
BIMMERPOST NEWS BMW 1M to be One-and-Done in US. Production Ends December 2011. No 2012 Model. A persistent question surrounding the much acclaimed BMW 1 Series M Coupe has always been how long it would be produced for and whether there would be a 2012 model year. We now know for certain (for the US market). According to the official BMW US model production schedule (attached below), the 1M coupe will end production in December 2011 for the US market, making a total production run of 10 months. The chart also indicates that there will not be a second (2012) model year for the US. If recent speculations comes to fruition, the successor to the 1M coupe will be the BMW M2 Coupe, as BMW will switch the next generation small BMW coupe to the 2-series badge. * Note: This is a US production chart. Other markets may or may not see a 1M in 2012. Remains to be seen. |

I knew for certain nearly six months ago... *shrug* The 2nd generation 1M/M2 likely will be an evolution of the current 1M.... of course it will have twin turbo 4, but the body styling I doubt will be a radical change..

That is OK when they change the 1-series badge number to the 2- series there will be a
M2 in the works they will just skip one production year.

Strange that they'll produce the E82 until 6/12 but not the 1M. They're producing the M3 through 2012 as well so the parts sharing wouldn't be an issue.

Damn, I was hoping they'd continue production for a couple of years so I could get a good deal on a CPO.
Cheap used 1Ms will be hard to come by. Maybe I'll pick up a used X6 and paint it orange. |

what's the source of this information? my very reliable (yet anonymous) source is telling me this schedule is "misleading", but he won't elaborate.

i thought it was pretty clear production would end in December 2011, my understanding is the N54 motor will not pass US emissions hence the 2011 model year and only be built for 2011

Everybody stop worrying. This schedule only shows certain MY2012 models because that's currently what's under production. So right now My2012 has started from March forward. It is "misleading".
They aren't going to build one year of this car. They're also not going to build MY2011 for only 5 months then change to 2012 suddenly. If they build MY2012 in E82 they will build the 1M. It will switch to 2012 after December and run as a late production model. We have the 2012 in Canada currently. Once that happens the list will be updated. They're just trying to build hype. I hope haha... |

For example, see this M3 production/model year schedule for 2011 and 2012 model years. It includes production dates all the way through the end of 2012.

It has been rather clear since early this year that we would only see a MY2011 1M. Still, some folks like to dream. Doesn't get much more official than this production sheet! Not to mention there was never any hint from BMW that it would make it into 2012 production. Never! Yet people still like to dream I suppose. |
