Factory Reset

After spending most of mothers day morning removing my JB4 so i could take the car back to the dealer for a very erratic & rough idle - i offer the following great news and would like to ask some advice.

Firstly my car is not subject to any recalls (injectors, HPFP or battery cable), which i was kind of hoping for on with injectors

Dealer identifies misfire on cylinder 1 , but cant decide what the cause is , so they begin swapping injectors , plugs etc from cylinder to cylinder to isolate the problem ............. This seems like an incredibly basic way of diagnosis???

Now i am reliably informed it requires all new plugs (at 30k !!!) this will set me back circa $450 (what a rip)

I am also told that BMW will pick up the tab (bless their sole......) for the computer upgrade that is required also.

My question is , will this upgrade have any detrimental effect on my JB4 tune when i re-install it????

Its becoming a very expensive little car -

JD

Swapping components to other cylinders is a very basic, easy diagnosis.

When I blew a coil on my S54, simply swapping that coil to another cylinder, and tracking the code is quick and easy.

As for the JB4, I don't know. But the dealership knows how to properly diagnose

You can get a set of 6 OEM plugs for around $80!
Yeah seems expensive, I imagine they have charged for diagnostics on top of the plug change?

Where can you get a set for $80?

Cheapest bosch plug i could find was $15 each, and the bmw branded bosch plugs were $20-30 each?

The plugs cost $240+gst the labour cost $166+gst and the software upgrade (more like downgrade........... based on my seat dyno) was supplied FOC by the kind hearted BMW AU folks.

If you have a tune and drive the car hard you should change the plugs every 20,000km to stop missfire issues. Not a hard job if you have the time and tools.

I agree, even more interesting might be to start up my own shop in QLD.

Their seems to be increasing demand and the current operators are not filling the gap left by the rip off stealers , whom have way to much work to really give a crap about customers.

Oh surprise , surprise the CAR is still rough idling in the morning - this i feel points to a leaky injector , overnight its probably dripping fuel into the cylinder and fouling the plug until it gets warm.......... yes i may be a novice about swapping my tunes in and out , but i do know a little about fuel injection.
