I insured $30,000 of my car with lockton at NHMS (1 day) for $218.44

No one on the thread has really had any experience with HPDE insurance, but heck, it sure is cheaper than the alternative.

Yikes, that is the most expensive insurance I have seen! HPDE's and racing is an inherently dangerous activity just as skiing, surfing, etc. As long as you use your noggin you should be able to keep yourself out of trouble. Most of the times I have seen wrecks is from people who are on their sophmore track event and push themselves just a little too hard. In my 6 years of racing involvement I have "only" been present for 4 actual wrecks this is out of the ~1500 or so cars that I have seen on track.

So State Farm Insurance wouldn't cover me for a BMW club HPDE event? (I don't want to call State Farm because this would raise some eyebrows I'm sure).

^ either way you have a legit question regarding your policy and whether it would raise an eyebrow or not has no impact on whether they cover or not.

That is a low ratio, which is great. I suppose my own experience, limited at best, is dissimilar. I just finished my third HPDE last weekend, all in my 1er and all at NHMS. Each event, someone whacked a wall. The first event, the only one i ran w/o insurance, saw an E30 M3 whack a wall and get flatbedded off the track. 2nd event an older 911 and the third event an STI 180'd into a pitrow wall of water-barrels, destroying the timing lights and radar. His car didn't look that bad, he drove it off the track and presumably home.

In this last event, my first solo, i backed off a little. The Hankook V12s were very slippery when cold (October in NH - it was not a warm day) and it was my first solo event, so i was learning to let people pass and trying to learn. I still had 10 or so laps faster than my previous fastest lap, but i have a lot to learn and plan on being safe while doing so.

Well I did my HPDE this weekend and wasted the whole $300 by not damaging my car at all.

But I did see a $100,000 car smash through a barrier and tear half its front end off. So I will probably go with the insurance again next time.

Yikes! Seeing is believing.

So how did you enjoy the HPDE (other than wasting 300 bucks?)

The HPDE was awesome. I will be back there for more the first chance I get. I don't want to wait all the way until Spring, so I'm looking for something like a racing class I can take in December or January at one of the tracks in Florida.
