Do I need VIN to track boat?
I have a production number, but I don't have a VIN. Do I need to have the VIN to track where my car is? Also, what is the site to track the ships?

www.marinetraffic.com and www.sailwx.info
If you don't have a VIN then your car hasn't even begin production. As soon as you receive a VIN you'll be able to track the build progress. |

I got the VIN numbers yesterday. I guess I will have to ask for information piece by piece because he didn't give me the ship my 1-series is on. According to BMWUSA my 1-series is en route and my wife's X3 is in production.
Is there a way to find what ship a car destined for the west coast is on if you don't get the ship name from your salesman? |

I got info below on tracking the ship with VIN for my ED
You first use VIN to find which ship your car is on, then try to check the ship's status.
For east coast deliveries, the shipping company’s website (Wallenius Wilhelmsen) is http://schedule.2wglobal.com/AppTrac...trackType=Auto. Use your VIN (obtained by your CA or the BMW Owner's Circle site). They update their schedule in real-time and changes the color of the ‘stops’ to Red after the ship arrives at different ports, signifying that the ship has docked. My ship took exactly 11 days to get from Bremerhaven to New York City. Sometimes, if your ship reports its status, you can track your ship while it makes its way across the pond. Go to http://www.sailwx.info/shiptrack/shiplocations.phtml and search by ship name. Keep in mind that my ship never showed up, so its really luck that you may see it. For west coast deliveries, the shipping company's website (NYK Lines) is http://www2.nykline.com/home/index.html. You can also use http://www.dbh.de/index.php?id=151&L=0 to track the departure of your ship from Bremerhaven to Port Hueneme. Apparently NYK Line doesn't make it easy to find your ship. After that, if you want to know when your ship is planning to dock in San Diego, San Diego Marine Information Systems will give you the arrival schedule for Port Hueneme (west coast delivery) at http://www.sdmis.org/schedule/.

I strongly suspect that your car will be shipped to Georgia. Once production begins at Leipzig it takes a few days before being loaded on rail cars to Bremerhaven. Here it will wait for a vessel. In my case this took about four days before departure. There are plenty of web tracking sites that can follow through the North Sea and English Channel. Once the ship gets into the Atlantic the ship will most probably stop broadcasting its location until it nears its first port of entry in the U. S.
