getting a deal on a water pump/ thermastat
Hey guys,
So my water pump failed yesterday(sigh) and I called BMW and they want over $1500 for the repair which I thought was outrageous. So I went on amazon and searched for the parts and found the pump for $388 and the thermastat for $57 (I'll include links at the bottom). Called up my local indy shop and they want $500 in labor, so I'm looking under $1000 total. Anyone know if I could get a better deal on the pump/thermastat online? Thanks for your help... I hate when my car fails http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00D366142/...I3CBQUSQ3O0CFB http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FAVNVPA/...I204KCDS0HQMKD Last edited by filet.M2c; 06-30-2014 at 11:00 AM.. Mine just failed yesterday too.
Getbmwparts has the pump and thermostat kit for 475 Ebay has the kit for 420, oem, but idk if its trustworthy... Ecstuning is pretty similar as well, and turner motorsport is like 515 |

My plan is to get the entire refresh kit from ECS. It includes a lot more than the pump and thermostat, but I figure why not. I've been extremely happy with ECS on several purchases so far on price and prompt shipping and delivery (guess it doesn't hurt they're only a 6 hour drive away).
Looking like it is ~$524 from them for just BMW thermostat, pump, new pump mounting bolts, and bottle of coolant. http://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E82-135...ng/Water_Pump/ http://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E82-135...ump/ES2763064/

FCP Euro: Guaranteed Parts and free (FAST) shipping to boot. Love these guys. Note: these links are for my car (2010 N54 135i). Make sure they are the same part #s for you, probably will be.

That's reasonable. It's a huge PITA to pull the water pump, multiple hour job for sure. If you can get the whole thing taken care of for $1K i'd call it a day.

my indy shop is pretty good, they offer the same 2 year warranty on parts/ labor if I buy the parts from them and they use genuine bmw parts. Thats why I actually cancelled my order online and will just be going through them. They quoted me $1100 for everything and I think its worth it for the warranty. I'll save $400 over the dealer and won't have to deal with removing my DPs and tune.

I would NEVER pay for OEM turbos. If my turbos go then its a sign from the turbo gods to order the RBs on credit and never look back. $3500 or so I believe?

My indy mechanic told me there isn't really a need to replace the thermostat. I got the pump at the dealer through a hookup for $350 and my indy did the job for $300. This was at 70k...Running strong at 95k now.
