135i 1M Body Conversion

hi,

has anybody in Australia attempted the OEM 1M body conversion as depicted on a number of USA posts?

is it as simple as they say at least in terms of ordering the parts? do we have the same sort of parts support here? ie dealer or some of the online parts places they have suggested?

i noticed some USA members have just done the front. does anybody know how this looks in terms of width symmetry with the standard rear guards?

if you do front only, have to bond the 1M side skirts to the 135i ones, since the skirts go wide for each guard.

not sure on local parts pricing, but BMMINI or ECS have the kit parts for good prices.

it doesn't look bad though, like people with the ER front wide kit, it looks great even with the stock rear.

no thanks am just considering the idea and want to go with original parts.

I am not looking to build a 1M I just simply want the factory wide body look and the performance and practicality I have with a 135i. It will still be a 135i and Porsche have been doing this for years with factory turbo body kits etc and it is getting a fair amount of traction on this site.

Don't do it, waste of cash. You can get the real thing for low $70s and sell it in 12 months for the same money. Mod a 135 and you loose mega $

The U.S. guys can do it easier, base car, way cheaper, parts local and cheaper.

Performance benefit is not worth it. There's just so much else you can do. If you like the styling, go for it.

I'd wait for the Revosport GT wide kit and go that route. I've seen some of the mouldings briefly and it is in an another league all together.

The kit is nice, but sort of defeat the purpose a bit without the pumped up arches imo. I was the first person outside of ER themselves to do the ER front conversion, and I think it look alright. The added benefit was that I was able to eliminate a lot of the understeer. But then again you may have set up your chassis nicely by now to eliminate that and adding a wider footprint at the front would just mean starting over again

I agree about the wide arch bit that look is highly appealing. My car is mechanically stock so nothing to undo everything to do!

Agree with these. Buy 1M, mod it or be done with it.

I considered the 1M conversion for my car mainly to get larger rubber under the car. I decided not to do it at this time due to car being off the road for longer than it has been already for other mods.

Its about a 10k proposition and not difficult with good people on it. Stuart at BMR and Peter at Advan can handle this.

I found the idea tempting.

Very true re the $40 to $50 k difference. I paid $30k for my car and I think $10 k is definitely worth the expense of the car I would like

Given many of the mechanical mods done on the 135i to give it 1M performance or better can also cost up to $10k or more it is a strange argument to say that a body conversion is not worth it buy a 1M!

I need an everyday car and if I owned a 1M I would not want to put everyday mileage and shopping centre and kids wear and tear on it. For me the 135i mechanical package is a perfect blend of flexible performance without being too focused.

I just simply want the special look of that kick ass widebody kit

My 1M makes a better daily driver than the 135i did... It's a special car but not special enough to be worried about putting miles on it.

Would it be difficult fitting original front 1M guards and bumper to the 135? If not, you could always try a wrecker in Aus or UK. About two months ago there was a wrecker in Moorebank, NSW advertising a black 1M on Gumtree which was being dismantled. They've taken the ad off, but google cache can always help to find it again

From all the builds done on this site it is not difficult to do the front you just need all the right parts to enure it all fits back together. There are a number of complete parts lists floating around - a wreck would be advantageous depending where it has been hit but all parts can be either dealer sourced or via BMW online parts suppliers.

If you just do the front the only trick or difficult part is the side skirts - the 135i one does not match the 1M front and the 1M does not match the 135i rear so to fuse these together is apparently a bit of a task.

Someone on the 135i facebook group did the 1M front conversion only and said he just heated and bent the 1M sideskirts to push them in at the back.
But it did look kinda ghetto.
