Well done Audi
This has been discussed. The 1M is faster from 5-60 then the same "chipped" RS3 and the TTRS. Point being the DSG, LC, and AWD on the Audi are indeed that good/effective...not chipped. Car&Driver has an interesting article right now about launch control mechanisms. The article has the TTRS as the third hardest launching car they have ever tested...behind only the Veyron and the Panamera Turbo but ahead the GT-R, R8, 911 Turbo S, 458, etc. This was, once again, the same car that was slower than the 1M in the 5-60 category.
Impressive stuff from Audi, nonetheless.

Very well written, I almost skipped reading this review, but all the previous posted grabbed my attention - I feel like I spent a few hours in each car, that's what makes a good review.

I hope I can one day soon get my hands on the BMW 1M, legendary car

"Is it as quick cross-country as the Audi? probably not, but since when did that matter? I mean this seriously, because despite all the numbers youre poring over here, most are irrelevant. We all know that numbers dont describe a car and that speed matters little. But SENSATION DOES. And no amount of binary encoding can replicate that. An inanimate machine it may be, but, boy, does the 1m understand how to animate the driver."

And that, my friends, is what BMW is about.

Definitely.

That was one of the best reviews ive read in a long time, the way they described the driving experience was just amazing

The only thing I object to about the awesomeness of both cars is the age of the chassis. But I guess that separates badge whores and enthusiasts: enthusiasts won't mind the older look when the new models come out because of how their cars drive.

Very good read, although the numbers theme to the review sort of gave the verdict away in the very beginning. Also, it is refreshing to see a review for the 1M in which the car was not that bloody Valencia Orange!

Great review with clear expression of the level of emotion generated by the 1M experience. Nice. This may sound silly but the narrower rear tyres on the RS3 freak me out. They bring to mind farm and other industrial equipment. Seem to work well though...ah well.

Exactly, it just perfectly described the feeling and approach of these two brands imo.
Audi as the poser, who's buyer want an RS to be cool in, on the road, but with less "soul" in it.
The BMW, for the guys that want the driving experience, and drives on the track.

I don't see where that conclusion is from as the Audi is the far more understated of the two

There are just as many that pose in BMW's.

I like the way this review highlight's the lack of importance 'the numbers' should have on your reason's for purchasing cars like this. They are road/odd trackday car's and the way they make you feel should be top of the list.

this is brilliant:

" We all know numbers don't describe a car and that speed matters little. But sensation does. and no amount of binary encoding car replicated that. An inanimate machine it may be but boy does the 1M- "BMW" understand how to animate the driver."

Nothing to add more, why people buying BMW over other brands.

The end of the article "forget 3.8 - settle for 4.5." pretty much sums it all up

plus the mid air pic

Elsewhere in the magazine they said Clarkson drove it to review on the show this upcoming season. Has a pic of him in a VO.

We like the BMW 135i coupe because it has almost no styling and nobody has heard of it. So when Jeremy heard that BMW were doing an M version, he went tearing off to the track wearing his special tyre-smoking shoes as fast as you could shout: "POWEEEEEEER."
So we should be getting a lap time on the Top Gear Test track soon.
