I had my fiancee as my passenger w/ the stopwatch.
All the tests were done on the highway from a complete stop (nobody was on the road!) no speed-limits were broken either! :-D

with DTC: 6.2
without DTC: 6.6

Without DTC, my rear wheels had some traction but I could still feel them slipping until a bit into 2nd gear (even when shifting to 2nd, there's still some slippage)
Do you think not having a passenger would make the time any better? She only weighs like 115lbs.
VERY close to the numbers I got as well. I turned DTC COMPLETELY OFF and I roasted my tires all through 1st from a 3k launch (Lets just say I didnt achieve a very good 0-60 there haha) . ALSO ON THE HWY, but I got 6.1 with no one in the car (DTC on). I held a stopwatch in my right hand that was on the shifter and activated it when I let of the clutch. I think that is a pretty good run before an oil change, I want to get really good synthetic for my first oil change which I will be doing in the next month. I saw some in Bavarian Auto.

Btw, wrongprotocol is right, wider tires are a MUST if you want to see decent 0-60 times, my dtc activated in 2nd as well. Seriously, I think if you had the correct set up with tires and suspension, this could be a 5.8-6.0 sec. 0-60 car without much effort.

Not a tick slower than the E46 330Ci I'd bet. (If you've driven one of those.)

I was just revving to 3k and letting off the clutch a little faster than If I was launching. (ie. not dumping the clutch)

I can´t believe a 128/125 doing low 6´s. Here in this article in which a 130i does 6,2s :iono::iono:

4 door hatch lol. It would need the 130 to get it moving. But I have no clue, maybe we got lucky with our cars :iono: . To me, it is very hard getting down the .1 or .2 seconds by hand. But I pretty much can say with confidence if it was a .2 it was an extremely low 6.2 , maybe it was a 6.199? lol, doubt if you want though, I dont mind

I'm hoping to get a 6.1 while sipping a Starbucks. I'll write to everyoen from the burn unit later today.

I have a 2001 330ci (stock) and I believe it was rated at 6.2 seconds 0 to 60 by BMW when it was new. I have never personally measured mine, but I know that BMW is usually very conservative in their estimates, so I would expect that a lighter 128 coupe with 5 more hp would be able to hit a very low 6 second time, perhaps even a high 5 second time under the right conditions. I do know that it is hard to get a quick launch with stock tires from a dead stop. I have surprised more than a few cars at stoplights. I pick up my 135 coupe tomorrow (they called me after work tonight that it came in). Hooray!!! This will probably be my last fast car; my next car will probably be a 128 for the gas mileage. By the way, what kind of mileage do you guys get with the manual tansmissions?
Thanks.

a 130i is and should be faster than a 128i or 125i. let's not pooh-pooh the hatch when it is going to be the likely basis for the new M1.

Their test car was set up the same as my 128i 'vert - sport package with included (262) 17" wheels and Goodyear NCT5 tires. Apparently, the U.S. 128i ZSP does not have an 18" wheel option.

i have the Canadian version it has the 18inch double spokes with Bridgestone potenza runflats.. by the way what does turning DTC on do? does the DSC off help? i have a tip and it is still quite quick..i'll have to actually time it though.

Read the motortrend article. If that does not do it for you, the BMW website rates the 128i at 0-60 in 6.1. That is THEIR website. Which is usually conservative.

As an aside, not that I am expecting lightning fast times or anything, but the one thing I haven't worked out is how to get the best launch times from the Step ... should I use Manual, or DS ? Disable DTC? Try and raise revs with the Brake before launch.

I'm just interested to see if the 6.7 for the Step is accurate.

I am sure you can get considerably faster than 6.7 with Step in DS. Even without brake-torquing.

One key would probably be to make sure that you get to 60 in 2nd gear.

Based on the 128i gearing ratios below, i estimate that the following speeds at 7000rpm (6500rpm)

Manual:
1st - 36.7 (34.1)mph
2nd - 64.4 (59.8)mph
3rd - 95.4 (88.6)mph

Auto:
1st - 33.7 (31.3)mph
2nd - 57.9 (53.8)mph
3rd - 88.5 (82.2)mph

I imagine what kills the 0-60 for the auto is the additional shift that it needs to get to 60mph. Even the manual you really need to hold it all the way to the red line to get to 60 in second gear.

Look on the bright side, your 0-50 time will probably be right there with a manual.

128i drive ratios for both manual and auto (from http://www.wheels.ca/newVehicles/profile/157396):
Manual/Automatic
First Gear Ratio (:1) 4.32/4.07
Second Gear Ratio (:1) 2.46/2.37
Third Gear Ratio (:1) 1.66/1.55
Fourth Gear Rato (:1) 1.23/1.16
Fifth Gear Ratio (:1) 1.00/0.85
Sixth Gear Ratio (:1) 0.85/0.67
Reverse Ratio (:1) 3.94/3.20
Final Drive Axle Ratio (:1) 3.23/3.73

really, i'd imagine that step is only a few tenths slower, maybe 6.1 or so. it shifts insanely fast so that always helps.
