HELP! Cat Sleeping on Convertible Roof
As of last night, a neighborhood cat has decided it likes to sleep on top of my 135 convertible's roof.
Anyone have any *humane* ideas of how to discourage this? I was thinking about sprinkling some cayenne pepper up there... |

We have this problem in our garage too... the cats like to sleep on convertible canvas tops and they claw them up eventually. I think there's some sort of spray you can buy at a pet store that supposedly repels them, but I'm not sure...

I love all these people, no offense jiboholic many people make similar comments, that respond to questions about car problems outside, and their solution is, "you can't park it inside"? I think any 1er owner, or anyone who loves there car would park inside if they could. If not it's their own fault. But why else would they be here asking what to do? I wish I could move to the place where everyone gets an indoor parking space! Alas, my neighborhood is urban with large lots but no off the street parking. For now I use a car cover. But I'm not sure that would be a solution for cats. I have used the spray before to try and keep cats off my porch with minor success. I really don't think you'd want to spray this on your car! It has an odor not unlike perfumed urine. Good luck, this would really piss me off, and I hate cats.

Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately I do not have a garage. I'd park it in my living room if there were a way to do so.
Hopefully I can nip this cat problem in the bud before it develops into clawing the top or scratching the paint. A friend told me he had a problem with a cat pissing on his convertible's roof. I certainly don't want my car to become some stray's litter box! |

Yes, this would be the Izzodesh solution.

Get some packing/boxing tape, the 2 inch wide clear stuff. Put a few strips of it across the top of the car, sticky side up. Kitty landmine!
I've used this method to keep cats off countertops and our dining room table. They can get the tape off after a few minutes of freaking out. They won't do it again... Edit: I am not responsible if you use too much tape and end up with a dead cat in a cacoon of tape in your garage. |

The reason they love your top is its relatively warm, soft, dry and high up so they can keep an eye on fidgeting critters.
A couple of things cats really hate: the cold, the wet, and strong odors. Since it probably isn't practical to go the cold, wet route - try lightly spraying the top with something that has a strong odor, like some watered down perfume. Don't use anything "minty fresh" since cats love mint, especially cat-nip. You might also try spraying some kind of cat-be-gone spray you can get at the pet stores. Make sure it can't damage your top. |

Since RaggTopp (or similar) top protectant has somewhat of an odor and should be regularly applied anyway, you might try it first before resorting to tape or dogs.

If you could affix it someway without messing up your auto, cats do not like the feel of aluminum foil on their paws. A few nights with that on the top should disuade the kitty permantly and he should stay away then.

Instead of stankin' up your top, try spraying some cat repellant onto some old rags, and then placing them around the top. You'll get the same effect without harming your top.

Ok, yes, this is an evil commercial, but the minute I saw your thread, I remembered this on YouTube. Evil, but funny, but evil! Enjoy!
