Is the 1 series the most aesthetically pleasing BMW to date?...
Honestly, I think it could be... but maybe I'm just crazy.
Every single BMW on the market today has something about its exterior that I can either critique or our just outright dislike. The E90 3 series sedan has a weird front that looks strange at certain angles imo. The sportier coupe model looks amazing from the front... but the rear doesn't quite fit for some odd reason. Just seems a bit too flat and "boxy" to me. The 7 series are definitely cool cars... but they've always looked a bit over-the-top (and for the price, maybe they should be). Much more feature / performance rich than it is visually pleasing though. New 6 series coupe / convertible looks like a dolphin on steroids. 5 Series is pretty nice, I'll admit... but I actually liked the previous model (E60's) more than the newer F-10's. E46 / M3 is probably one of the more aesthetically pleasing BMW's, in my eyes at least... but even the M3's looks seem to have downgraded a bit with the introduction of the E90's imho. Now, when I step back and look at the 1 series... I see damn near perfection (I'm talking exterior only, of course). It is a BEAUTIFUL vehicle in my eyes and all of the curves, the overall size, and minor details seem to compliment each other very well overall. It has just the right touch of "aggressiveness", while still maintaining a certain level of elegance and luxuriousness. In short, it just looks like BMW got it "right" to me. ...but then again, maybe it's just because I own one |

The lines of the E92 coupe are much sleeker and flow much better than the E82.
That said, the compact, upright, stubby form of E82 is a terrific, 21st century redux of the 2002.

You're crazy. Don't get me wrong, I love the looks of the 1-Series. The styling is one of the things that drew me to the car, especially so as it reminded me of the older 2002's. I like boxy.
But park next to a recent-ish M3 coupe and there's no comparison as to which (the M3) is better looking. |

E86 Z4 Coupe / M Coupe. I just get all giddy whenever I see one!

I probably wouldn't try to compare it to a classic like the 2002... but even if you went back a generation or so (E46's, E60's, E36's, E39's etc...), I'd still say it has the best overall appearance. |

I have been looking for a nice Aston Martin Vantage for a while, and only looking at the V8 models as, just like the M3, the V12 has too many added on grilles and scoops. Ruins the clean lines and is too much visual distraction. Last edited by MightyMouseTech; 05-08-2013 at 09:21 AM.. |

It's a subjective matter, but personally the E8x looks good at best in my eyes, its general profile is pudgy and tall with some awkward sharp angles thrown in. And it has some of the droopiest, softest looking sideskirts of any car on the market, that's probably the part that really annoys me. It's a wonderful car, but I don't look at it in the morning and think "my god that's beautiful". Off the top of my head I find the E39, E36, E46, E92, E90LCI, F30, and F10 to be more attractive sheet metal. The 1er looks good from certain angles, but park it next to an E92 and it's not even close. I know it sounds like i'm hating on my own car...but yea, I guess i'm hating on my own car. I will say that the 1er convertible pulls off the soft top pretty well, whereas the E93's metal top ruins what is one of the most beautiful rear ends on the road.

I think the 135i is a good looking car and definitely reminiscent of the old 2002's and arguably the best looking out of the current line up, but best looking BMW ever? I think that's a stretch..... |

Pregnant pig belly...
Though I will say the vert really fixes the awkward greenhouse that the 1er coupe has - I personally think a topless vert looks better than the coupe. |
