There was an older thread about this. The source for those in gear timesare from Autocar magazine. In fact, at the time I found that so interesting I checked out every performance car they have tested in last 3 years or so and I have a hand-written list of more cars there: long story short, if we don't take into account one single discipline but all of them which is easy if you just add all numbers and the least the total the better the score! I did that and then put the results in order from best to worst (I know different times, drivers and conditions but Autocar is not that bad magazine and should reflect some truth anyway): 1M was behind only the GT-R Black Edition and Ferrari Italia! Guess who else is in the list behind: just to name one, world record holder for who-knows-how many things Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, with a nose but still!
In fact, this comparison is one of the reasons that make me believe that stock hp and torque numbers are seriously underrated and it may have closer to 600 nm rather than 450 or 500. On the other hand, I doubt a stock 1M can make the 0-60 in 4.2 sec. especially with Michelin PS2s, around 4.4-4.5 is more realistic for that type of accelaration. Owners of this little in-gear monster be proud! |

I dyno'd 370ft-lbs at the wheels STOCK on a Mustang Dyne. (Heartbreaker)
Only 298whp though. I REALLY need to get some higher flowing turbos to be truly happy with the torque curve. But no doubt, this is the most liveable and fun DD I've ever had! |

Yeah, what a nose-heavy barge that would be!

Agree with clived, plus we are talking about how the torque more than compensates the high end power here, why would we even imagine a 1M with V8? Wouldn't it be a shorter and slightly lighter M3 without its own personality? In fact, I kind of imagined this like most people and I am real happy with the N54T, thank you very much.
My notes from Autocar's road tests in gear data, according to the ordering method I have explained in my first post here (the smallest the total time the better it is) indicates the following: 1) Ferrrari 458 Italia 2) Nissan GT-R Black Edition 3) BMW 1M 4) Bugatti Veyron Super Sport 5) Lexus LFA 6) Ferrari F430 F1 7) Aston Martin DBS 8) Audi RS3 9) Audi R8 V10 10) Porsche 911 3.8 GT3 RS 11) Audi R8 V8 12) Audi RS5 13) BMW (E92) M3 14) Lotus Evora S |

The 1M wouldn't be a nose-heavy barge even with the V10, but that is irrelevant anyway.
I think a 1M with a supercharged S65 would be AWESOME! But, wayyyy to much money for the setup. |

IMHO a 1M with a M3 V8 engine in it would be completely missing the point of the 1M in the first place. Why not get an M3 directly??? The only difference would be weight (you can mod the M3 to get that weight parity) and shorter wheelbase (ok, that you could not do anything about), but why? Is anyone complaining that the M3 is too long wheelbase?

I hate how the magazines post specific gear 30-50 and such times.... With different gearing in each car, a longer geared car would be at a severe disadvantage as the results prove it.

That's like saying you hate how they post times with cars with different engine displacements and the cars with much smaller displacements are at a severe disadvantage. I'm not I am sure I understand your point....?

They post lets say 30-50mph in 3th gear. Going to a car like the EVO VIII IX or X 5 speed with very short gears, it will accelerate fairly well. You take on the other hand a car like the Z06 with extremely long gears, 3rd gear at 30mph is well under 2k rpms where it needs time to build up speed.
Consumers that are unaware, would just read it as "Oh, the evo is quicker in 3rd gear" when it is severely incorrect. All out performance numbers.... doesn't matter what engine displacement, times are times when you say 0-60, 1320, etc. Also road course times, just because car "A" beat car "B" at a specific track, doesn't mean car "A" will beat car "B" at every track. If magazines post times from various cars at 30-50mph in 3rd or 4th gear, they should also mentioned how low in RPM's that specific car was. Last edited by TEAM SLO; 11-21-2011 at 04:35 PM.. |

You know.... dyno can say all they want to...my Butt Dyno says if I see a spot I need to go to, the 1M can go there easier than just about any other car I have owned in my 40 years of being a licensed driver (yes - I am 56). And remember, Butt Dyno's are used in everyday life, and don't lie!
